Job Description:
Lead Android Engineer

Location: Austin, Texas (Onsite)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Lead Android Engineer to contribute to the design, implementation, and support of meaningful production features within an enterprise-scale application. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical leadership skills and extensive experience in native Android development. This role involves working within an Agile environment to deliver high-quality mobile solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, test, release, and support production Android features.
  • Collaborate with Agile delivery teams on sprint planning, estimation, and execution.
  • Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, and mentorship.
  • Uphold and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Coordinate dependencies and participate in release planning activities.
  • Communicate technical decisions, alternatives, and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Lead delivery of features, potentially across team boundaries.
Required Qualifications

Education:

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is required.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional native Android development experience, including shipping complex applications to production.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, testing, releasing, and supporting production Android features in an enterprise-scale application.
  • Proven experience working in Agile delivery teams.


Technical Skills:
  • Strong, recent hands-on experience with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and the Android SDK.
  • Proficiency with Android Jetpack libraries, Gradle, and REST APIs.
  • Knowledge of modern Android architecture patterns.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a SAFe or Agile Release Train environment, including PI planning and cross-team coordination.
  • Experience in regulated, security-conscious, or high-availability environments such as financial services.
  • Production experience with feature flags, staged rollouts, experimentation, kill switches, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and performance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with modular Android applications, CI/CD, build optimization, release automation, and automated testing.
  • Experience with the responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools for tasks such as code generation, refactoring, and testing, with appropriate human validation.
