Position Summary

As a Principal Engineer/Architect/Lead Director with Enterprise Product Acceleration, you will participate in an Agile Programming Product Team to build high quality, usable products for customers and stakeholders. You will help educate both business and technology personnel on the development process as well as lead products from discovery and framework-through iterative development and delivery while maintaining a user-centered approach in design perspective and practice.

A firm understanding of Reat, Python, Java and API development principles and agile methodologies is crucial for success in the role.

As Principal Engineer/Architect/Lead Director, you will:

Lead the development of strategical and tactical visions for the Aetna Claims & Financials team and systems architecture, including plans for merging each distinct product area into the greater product line/platform

Unify system architecture and design around the road map and strategic vision of each product as well as the organization as a whole

Facilitate the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions to address sustainability, availability, quality, performance, data integrity, and stability

Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes by conducting POCs and vendor evaluations to ensure the highest quality products which follow industry standards and open architectures wherever practical

Collaborate and coordinate across the products, external IT architecture, application development teams, and centralized infrastructure teams to enable product teams to integrate with enterprise systems and infrastructure to meet the business/product goals

Understand requirements and constraints for key architectural drivers

Drive toward shared architectures that promote re-use and facilitate integration with cross lab products and CVS Health enterprise systems using industry standards

Mature the Processes and Engineering Practices of the products in coordination with Leads and anchors

Provide architectural blueprints, reference architectures, and technical guidance to the Product Development team

Nurture Cloud-Native expertise internally to drive the adoption of Cloud Native principles and techniques

Facilitate, influence, and persuade architectural and design decisions that impact product developments

Dive into the code to suggest ways to improve the code quality or help with troubleshooting production issues

Recommend tools and processes that will increase efficiency, quality, and morale within the product development organization

Participate and assist in providing inputs to scoping deliverables

Participate and assist in Discovery and Framing sessions to produce conceptual architecture and high-level data models

Participate in product ceremonies such as IPM on need basis to assist in flawless execution assigned products

Maintain effective working relationships across various roles such as leads, anchors, engineers, business and IT Product Managers to act as one team

Required Qualifications 15+ years of development experience

Experience working with enterprise solution delivery

Experience working in a Scrum iterative delivery, using Agile concepts such as Sprint planning, CI/CD

Experience with front end development using React, React TypeScript, React JS

Experience in building backend functionality using Python, API Forge, Rest API

Experience in utilizing AI tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Vertex AI

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a J2EE development environment, FAST API

Experience with emerging cloud platform technologies such as: AWS Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, GKE, Google DBs (Bigquery, Spanner, BigTable) or other PaaS technologies

Experience with AI tools such as Cursor, Copilot, Vertex AI, will be a plus

Education

Bachelor's degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$144,200.00 - $288,400.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
