The Direct to Cell network expand Starlink's vision by providing ubiquitous connectivity and seamless access to text, voice, and data for phones and devices across the globe. The Direct to Cell network leverages the infrastructure we've built for Starlink and provides cellular service through a constellation of hundreds of satellites.

As an integration and system validation software engineer on the Direct to Cell program, your focus will be on validating cellular radio access network (RAN) features, supporting interoperability and performance testing, and improving developer efficiency across the cellular protocol stack. You will collaborate with RAN developers to design, build, and validate new RAN features and then analyze the performance as they roll out across the network. You will be responsible for the software and hardware test infrastructure that enables rapid development and validation of the Direct to Cell network. You will develop integration and interoperability test cases to ensure the next generation of cellular devices work seamlessly across the Direct to Cell network.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with developers on new 4G and 5G cellular features and create automated tests to verify functionality and performance
  • Support integration and interoperability lab testing and field trials
  • Analyze and optimize new cellular features to improve network performance and reliability
  • Develop modular test software frameworks and integrate cellular and satellite hardware for the development and verification of RAN software and hardware
  • Maintain and troubleshoot automation lab infrastructure and work with partner teams to resolve failures
  • Build tools and dashboards to provide insight into network performance

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline; OR 2+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of a degree
  • Experience with Linux
  • Experience in Python, and/or other scripting languages
  • Experience with VCS (Git)
  • Experience working with REST APIs

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience troubleshooting interactions between software and hardware such as network devices and lab instrumentation
  • Experience with configuration management, version control software, continuous integration, and agile development
  • Experience with cellular networks technologies (4G, 5G) and debugging issues using tools such as Wireshark, QXDM, or XCAL
  • Experience with device and interoperability certification testing and/or supporting new product introduction (NPI)
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Software Engineer/Level I: $130,000.00 - $155,000.00/per year
