Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, or related fields preferred. OR Associates degree with relevant years of experience in facilities management.

Experience / Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of plant operations experience/management in a healthcare environment.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively more responsible supervisory/management experience combined with experience related to codes and requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Experience with engineering and maintenance of physical plant and grounds, contract maintenance and construction coordination and safety programs.
  • Analytical experience to prepare and administer budgets, evaluate current methods of delivering service, assess the effectiveness of these methods and recommend new techniques and procedures.
  • Experience in emergency and disaster preparedness.
  • Management experience in operating and capital budget planning.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Organizational and leadership skills required to supervise staff.
  • Ability to interpret, adapts to, and reacts calmly under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to use logical and analytical thinking to interpret technical data and solve a broad range of problems.
  • Ability to learn appropriate software applications.
  • Knowledge of Central Energy Plant operations, Emergency power Systems, and Medical Gas Systems.
  • Knowledge of hurricane preparedness.
  • Knowledge of Preventative Maintenance Programs, LEAN methodology, and obsolescence planning.
  • Able to effectively monitor and develop the abilities of subordinates.
  • Able to perform critical analysis of energy center issues.
  • Strong regulatory knowledge of Joint Commission (JC) Environment of Care standards, AIA guidelines, NFPA, Life Safety, ACHA, Florida Building Codes, and other applicable industry or regulatory standards.
  • Understanding of engineering principles and applications.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License for operating company vehicles.

Position Summary

The Director of Facilities Management oversees and directs departmental activities to ensure quality services for both internal and external customers. Serves as a resource to and collaborates with others to advance the hospital mission.
  • Evaluates, develops, and implements departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and standards of work performance for the maintenance and repair of non-patient care equipment; buildings and building systems including equipment that provides air conditioning, heating, steam, hot water, electricity, sanitation, and medical gases. Monitors and confirms these processes are completed in compliance with codes, laws, standards, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Coordinates and assures compliance of facility and life safety related requirements of The Joint Commission, CMS, State, and other regulatory agencies including all inspections, maintenance, policies, and documentation. Coordinate's life safety measures throughout the hospital including policies and procedures relative to fire and life safety.
  • Directs departmental activities to include staffing, productivity, recruitment, performance evaluation, staff development, training, and orientation to ensure operational needs and compliance with established personnel policies and procedures and regulatory agencies. Approves timecards. Maintains department personnel files.
  • Manages department staff and develops and maintains a department staffing plan that meets hospital operational requirements. Establishes and enforces service standards and provides training as needed to support the hospital's customer service program goals.
  • Plans, develops, and participates in departmental training as needed.
  • Responsible for selection and coordination of all maintenance service contractors. Ensures contractual provisions and hospital construction schedules are met and satisfy established standards of hospital policy and regulations and codes.
  • Develops annual operating budget to include personnel, equipment, materials, and supply needs. Monitors budget after adoption. Develops capital budget recommendations related to facility infrastructure needs. Prepares and presents various statistical and operating reports including monitoring and monthly reports of utilities usage and cost.
  • Evaluates department operational processes by recommending and implementing process improvement initiatives to reduce cost and improve response time.
  • Oversees the development, review, approval, and implementation of department policies and procedures on safety, risk management, infection control, and other standards while assuring compliance with all regulatory/enforcement agencies; sets hospital standards for energy conservation initiatives.
  • Oversees the planning, organization, and management of the overall maintenance, repair, and physical operation of hospital facilities including offsite buildings and grounds. Maintains all hospital departments informed on a timely basis of projects that will impact the daily operations of the hospital.
  • Responsible for the oversight of Security and Biomedical Engineering services.
  • Effectively uses and role models current management techniques and theories, encouraging the decision-making skills of staff members and providing insight and leadership in complex situations.
  • Supervises the development of service policies, procedures, and operating guidelines. Collaborates with other services within the division. Ensures that information is disseminated to staff is monitored for effectiveness and changed as needed.
  • Understands and enforces all hospital and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Lead and/or serve on hospital and Patient Care Services committees, teams, and work groups as required.

Physical Requirements

This position can be physically demanding at times. Corrected vision, normal hearing. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally. This position will require standing, lifting, walking, and kneeling for extended periods of time push/pull up to 40lbs., carry and lift up to 75lbs. Ability to adapt and react during stressful situations.
