Role Overview:

This role performs supervision over the DWD Unemployement Insurance (Uplink) application. Roles performed by this position involve:
  • Application Development (Java)
  • Supervision over development staff
  • Participating in code reviews
  • Establishing and reviewing of development metrics
  • Acting as a point of contact for on-call duties

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $79,118.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:
  • Supervises the teams and daily activities needed for the analysis, testing, coding, and implementation of applications.
  • Prepare performance reports and evaluates work.
  • Confer with and advise subordinates on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of information technology budgets for the project.
  • Plan and direct the acquisition and use of information technology products, services, and resources to meet the project or departmental goal.
  • Develop and promulgate information technology policy and procedures.
  • Supports multiple development projects with scheduling, planning, and resource allocation and monitor completed systems and visit users to ensure that established procedures are properly followed.
  • Prepare activity and progress reports regarding the activities of the applications systems and programming project or unit.
  • Consult with management and staff within Information Services to ascertain technology needs.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex projects.
  • Confer with users to define the organization's application software needs, establish priorities and monitor progress.
  • Confer with department management to assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities for highly specialized technical areas.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
  • Broad knowledge of policies, standards, procedures and techniques used for application development.
  • Broad knowledge of application development software tools and application development software languages.
  • Broad knowledge of both system and business applications and competent to work at the highest technical level and/or specialized area.
  • Broad knowledge of system design including knowledge of logic, management principles and new system design techniques.
  • Broad knowledge of Information Technology.
  • Ability to supervise and manage diverse human resources.
  • Ability to train, supervise, guide and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to perform effective project management.

A degree is not required. However, at least 5+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
