Summary

Description

This is a hands-on software engineering internship with a leading medical device and software company, ideal for students pursuing software engineering or related technical degrees. As part of a collaborative software development and testing team, you will contribute to real-world software for biotechnology medical devices and gain exposure to medical imaging technologies. The internship offers full-time work during the summer (May August), with the potential to continue part-time during the fall and spring semesters.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a cross-functional software development and testing team supporting biotechnology medical devices
  • Learn and understand software and system requirements from both a technical and end-user perspective
  • Assist with the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications, primarily within a .NET framework
  • Write, execute, and maintain unit and integration tests under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and team discussions to gain exposure to best practices
  • Troubleshoot and debug software issues with support from the engineering team
  • Help manage assigned tasks, priorities, and deadlines in alignment with project goals
  • Document work and contribute ideas, recommendations, and solutions during development activities
  • Gain exposure to software development in a regulated medical device environment, including compliance with U.S. FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and other applicable standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required:

  • Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical/science field
  • Foundational understanding of biotechnology or biomedical concepts
  • Coding or scripting experience (academic or project-based experience acceptable)
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (C#, Python, Java, or similar)
  • Ability to learn new technical concepts quickly and work in a federally regulated environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

Preferred

  • Exposure to .NET / C# through coursework or projects
  • Interest in medical imaging or medical device software
  • Experience with unit testing or debugging (academic experience is fine)
  • Familiarity with Agile or structured software development processes
  • Experience with images and/or graphics
  • GPA: >3.0 (overall)
