Summary

Kavaliro is seeking a Principal Unreal Engine Graphics Programmer to help drive the visual quality and technical direction of our projects. In this role, you ll work at the intersection of engineering and art, building high-performance rendering systems and advancing the graphical capabilities of our Unreal Engine-based experiences. This is a senior-level position with significant influence over technical strategy, pipelines, and best practices across the studio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of advanced rendering features and graphics systems within Unreal Engine

  • Partner closely with art, design, and engineering teams to translate creative vision into efficient, scalable real-time solutions

  • Optimize rendering performance across platforms, ensuring high visual fidelity without sacrificing frame rate or stability

  • Architect and maintain core graphics pipelines, including lighting, shading, post-processing, and materials

  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks using profiling tools and deep technical analysis

  • Guide technical direction for graphics-related systems and contribute to long-term engine and tooling strategy

  • Mentor and support other engineers, promoting high standards for code quality, performance, and maintainability

  • Evaluate new technologies and techniques to continuously improve visual quality and development efficiency

  • Collaborate in code reviews and contribute to shared engineering practices across the team

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional experience in graphics programming, with a strong focus on real-time rendering

  • Deep expertise with Unreal Engine (UE4 and/or UE5), including its rendering architecture and toolset

  • Strong understanding of modern graphics APIs (DirectX 11/12, Vulkan, or Metal)

  • Proficiency in C++ and experience working in large, performance-critical codebases

  • Solid foundation in 3D math, rendering techniques, and GPU programming

  • Experience with shader development (HLSL or similar) and material systems

  • Proven track record of optimizing performance for real-time applications or games

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience shipping one or more titles using Unreal Engine

  • Familiarity with ray tracing, global illumination, or advanced lighting techniques

  • Experience developing tools and workflows for artists and content creators

  • Knowledge of cross-platform development, including console or mobile optimization

  • Prior experience in a technical leadership or staff-level role
