Summary

Role Summary

Nuuly is searching for a DevOps Engineer to join our growing Platform Engineering team. We are looking for a candidate who will build and maintain features to enhance our systems, as well as serve as a deeply technical guide to our business team as they adopt features built by all engineering teams. Your goal will be to allow for seamless scalability of our production infrastructure and apply your technical expertise to help preclude growth concerns before they occur.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to build a breadth of experience with Kubernetes, Kafka, and Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform). As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes. The ideal candidate should have more than 3 years of hands-on experience in DevOps practices, with a strong emphasis on Google Cloud Platform services and Kubernetes orchestration, and some experience in asynchronous message brokers (like Kafka & RabbitMQ). You will play a crucial role in optimizing our cloud environment and streamlining our development and deployment processes. This role will impact Nuuly's overall success and growth, driving our scalability, reliability, and efficiency.

Role Responsibilities

A typical week at Nuuly in this role may involve:
  • Design, implement, and manage scalable and highly available cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, including Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud Networking, and Confluent Kafka.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to establish efficient CI/CD pipelines, ensuring smooth and automated application deployments.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to maintain the health, performance, and security of the cloud infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with our engineering team to optimize our Kafka message broker to support our event-driven architecture and enhance system performance.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and address performance bottlenecks and optimize the overall system performance.
  • Ensure the security of the cloud infrastructure and applications, implementing best practices and staying up-to-date with the latest security threats and mitigations.
  • Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to infrastructure, deployments, and applications.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for the infrastructure, deployment processes, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in cloud technologies, Kubernetes, and DevOps practices, and propose relevant improvements to our infrastructure.

Role Qualifications

Qualifications
  • More than 3 years of hands-on experience as a DevOps Engineer, with a strong focus on cloud infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of streaming data and distributed systems design with asynchronous message brokers like Kafka.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Deployment Manager.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Job Skills
  • Designing and managing cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform; including virtual machines, storage, networking, and IAM.
  • Managing Kubernetes deployment, monitoring, scaling, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintaining our CI/CD pipelines with Google Cloud Platform and GitHub Actions.
  • Understanding of essential Kafka components like Zookeeper, Brokers, and optimization of Kafka client applications (Producers/Consumers).
  • Proficiency in YAML and experience with writing structured configuration files for infrastructure management and application deployment.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Shell.
  • Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration concepts.
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices and compliance standards.
