Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose:

Equipment Design and Development Engineer responsible for leading or working within multi-discipline teams to Prototype and Pilot Equipment Design for optical fiber manufacturing processes and products. Work is completed as a member of a technology development team chartered to improve one or more of the following: manufacturing yield (selections), process rate, machine utilization, product quality, new products, environmental compliance, safety, and/or energy usage.

Major Responsibilities:
Use established processes to identify concepts for manufacturing equipment, design, build and test selected concepts as an individual and in teams and utilize risk management tools to ensure on-time delivery.
Designing and executing equipment validation test in a manufacturing plant; analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and making recommendations.
Collaborating with other equipment/machine design experts within and outside of OFC development organization.
Securing funding via appropriation requests and expense budgeting processes to support equipment design and development.
Communicating and documenting results and equipment designs.

<10% domestic and international possible

Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:
The position is overtime exempt. Overtime is not uncommon and is expected at times, however the amount and duration will vary as a function of the job position, particular project, and point in the project life cycle.

Qualifications:
B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, industrial engineers, or physics
5+ years' work experience manufacturing and/or equipment design preferred
2+ years of experience and familiarity with 3-D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred, SolidWorks, CREO, etc.)
1+ Years of experience and proficient in DMAIC or MEE methodologies for problem solving.

Desired Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge experience of Machine Controls (motion control, sensor technologies, PLC programming, etc.) and safety systems.
Knowledge of optical fiber properties, optical fiber process development, or manufacturing.
Experience with data processing software (e.g. Jmp, Python, Power BI) and MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Modeling simulation software optional (e.g. Aspen, MATLAB, Fluent).

The range for this position is $94,311.00 - $129,678.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
