The Role

Within New England Gas Asset Management & Engineering, the Associate Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring gas assets meet regulatory, corporate, and industry process safety requirements-protecting people, communities, and critical infrastructure.

What You'll Do

  • Support and coordinate process hazard analyses (PHAs) for gas assets and engineering projects (e.g., HAZOP- and HAZID-based reviews, LOPA, and QRA, as applicable)
  • Oversee tracking, management, and closure of process safety action items, ensuring risks are mitigated and actions are verified and documented
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource for the Management of Change (MOC) process for the New England Gas business, including review of change classification, risk evaluation, and closure
  • Conduct periodic field visits to support process safety reviews, PSSRs, inspections, and assurance activities
  • Support development, monitoring, and reporting of process safety KPIs and compliance metrics
  • Represent process safety in cross-functional discussions, reviews, and meetings, providing clear recommendations and influencing decisions

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program required, Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Coursework, co-ops, internships, or early-career exposure to process safety concepts (e.g., PHAs, HAZOPs, LOPA, QRA) and tasks (e.g., supporting reviews, documentation, or action tracking) required
  • Familiarity with regulated or compliance-driven environments, including exposure to OSHA Process Safety Management (29 CFR 1910.119) required
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities required
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams required
  • Valid driver's license required

Salary

$100,000 - $117,000 a year
