Controls Engineer - Building Automation
Charlotte, North Carolina

About the Role: Currently seeking a Controls Engineer to support BAS design, programming, and project execution in the Charlotte, NC area. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both design/engineering work and hands-on collaboration with field teams. You'll be responsible for translating project plans into fully functional control systems while supporting commissioning and ongoing project success.

What You'll Do
  • Design and develop control sequences, schematics, and engineered drawings for BAS/DDC systems
  • Interpret project plans/specs and create submittals (points lists, wiring diagrams, BOMs)
  • Build and manage BAS databases and develop controller-level programming
  • Support field teams with implementation, troubleshooting, and commissioning
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and subcontractors
  • Ensure designs align with project scope, materials, and specifications
  • Maintain accurate documentation and as-built drawings
  • Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance
  • Stay up to date on BAS platforms and improve programming standards

What You Bring
  • 3-8+ years of experience in BAS controls engineering, design, or programming
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and control sequences
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, or similar design tools
  • Knowledge of BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara (AX/N4), Distech, or similar
  • Ability to translate specs into functional designs and programs
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver's license

Nice to Have:
  • Engineering degree or technical background in HVAC, controls, or electronics
  • Experience supporting field commissioning and startup
