Job Description:
Workday Senior Security Administrator (Contractor)

Department: Technology
Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Workday Senior Security Administrator to lead post-implementation security review and ongoing governance for a large Workday HCM environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring secure, compliant, and scalable access across all HCM modules, reporting, integrations, and technical controls.

The ideal candidate brings a top-down, enterprise-level mindset-partnering closely with internal stakeholders and implementation vendors to assess current security architecture, streamline complexity, strengthen controls, and establish a sustainable governance framework that supports audits, compliance, and future growth.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the lead Workday Security Subject Matter Expert, providing strategic and hands-on direction.
  • Lead post-implementation security reviews to validate configurations align with governance, compliance, and access control standards.
  • Partner with HR, Technology, Risk, Compliance, and implementation vendors to understand access needs and deliver secure, compliant solutions across complex environments.
  • Analyze and optimize Workday security configuration, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, risks, and unintended access.
  • Design and maintain role-based security models, including domain, business process, and reporting security.
  • Support Workday reporting and integrations, ensuring appropriate data access, secure data transmission, and compliance with internal controls.
  • Develop and maintain custom reports using Workday reporting tools.
  • Support Authentication and Single Sign-On (SSO) in collaboration with internal teams and implementation partners.
  • Troubleshoot and remediate security-related and technical issues as needed.
  • Create and maintain documentation supporting system design, security decisions, SOX controls, audit evidence, and governance standards.
  • Proactively monitor upcoming Workday releases to assess new security functionality and identify opportunities to strengthen controls and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure ongoing system security, stability, and audit readiness.
  • Maintain records in accordance with applicable records management policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience administering Workday HCM Security.
  • Deep expertise across Workday HCM modules, including Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Time Tracking, and related areas.
  • Proven experience with user authentication, authorization, data security, and system auditing within Workday.
  • Strong experience creating and maintaining custom reports using modern Workday reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated success designing and managing role-based security models.
  • Experience leading or supporting Workday implementation and post-implementation security initiatives.
  • Ability to operate independently at a senior/manager level, managing priorities without direct people management responsibility.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Proven ability to mentor team members and transfer knowledge.
  • Active Workday Pro Security Certification(s) required.
Safety & Compliance

Perform all duties in a safe manner to protect employees, stakeholders, and the public. Promote safety awareness, follow established safety procedures, and report unsafe conditions in accordance with policy.
