About This Role

A leading automotive EV battery manufacturer is hiring an Engineer for its Battery Cell Department in Liberty, NC (100% onsite), joining a process-and-product advancement and problem-solving group. You will lead planning and problem solving in pre-production trial activity: issue identification, root cause analysis, resolution, recurrence prevention, and project management of trials. You will confirm KPIs, evaluate cell performance with analytical and quality tools, and contribute to process and equipment plans and specifications, while mentoring team members on battery knowledge, trial planning, and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and problem solving in pre-production trial activity for battery cell manufacturing
  • Lead a cross-functional team collaborating on equipment, and engage and resolve material, product, and process issues (internal and external)
  • Create and implement working and trial plans for confirmation and problem-solving activity using structured problem solving (A3 or 8D style) or equivalent lean practices
  • Perform root cause analysis, issue resolution, and recurrence prevention (continuous improvement) across subsequent activity and projects
  • Confirm KPIs and evaluate cell performance using analytical tools and quality functions
  • Input to process and equipment plans and specifications for continuous improvement and issue-recurrence prevention
  • Create detailed technical and summary reports for organizational learning
  • Interpret and apply product/process specifications, drawings, and data, including new material introduction, validation, and change-point management
  • Lead internal and external partner relationships and report status to senior leadership
  • Mentor and coach team members on battery knowledge, trial planning and execution, and data analysis

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a similar technical field
  • 3 plus years of equivalent engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Battery cell manufacturing experience: winding, cell assembly, and electrolyte fill on automotive cells (2 plus years; 5 plus preferred)
  • Battery cell product, processes/equipment, and/or trial activity; battery chemistry and material trials
  • Manufacturing production preparation and schedule/deliverable management (project plan, process/equipment plan, specification and procurement, installation, and trial)
  • Pre-production trial leadership: root cause analysis, resolution, recurrence prevention, and KPI confirmation
  • Interpreting and applying product/process specs, drawings, and data, including new material introduction and change-point management
  • Coordinating across functions in a large organization and reporting to senior leadership
  • Availability for weekends and shutdowns, overtime up to 25%, and travel up to 15% (domestic and international)
  • Preferred: lean/production-system application; simultaneous product and process engineering for new models; plant production operations; data-analytics tools; digital-engineering software; Japanese language
