Summary

Senior DevOps Engineer

We are hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to drive operational stability, resilience, and performance for a mission critical DoD platform while supporting ongoing cloud native transformation efforts. This full time, direct hire position is centered on strengthening DevOps operations and platform reliability, with clear opportunities to influence and advance broader infrastructure modernization initiatives.

The company is located in Alexandria, VA and will be onsite for the first 90 days, then will transition to a hybrid model of 3 days onsite a week.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Architect, implement, and optimize secure CI CD pipelines using GitLab and Jenkins, integrating automated security scanning and compliance validation to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Administer and govern GitLab repositories, including branch strategy, merge standards, and code hygiene, while coaching engineering teams on compliant source control practices.
  • Integrate and maintain core DevOps toolchains including GitLab, Jira, Jenkins, and Sonatype Nexus to ensure traceability, artifact integrity, and release accountability.
  • Lead controlled release management across Development and QA environments, enforcing approval workflows, configuration management discipline, and audit readiness.
  • Design and automate secrets management and keystore processes aligned with ATO and government security standards.
  • Monitor and analyze ELK Stack telemetry, configure Kibana alerts, and proactively troubleshoot deployment and production system issues.
  • Harden and standardize Dockerfiles in accordance with government security baselines and container security best practices.
  • Automate F5 BIG IP load balancing and application routing configurations using infrastructure as code principles.
  • Diagnose and remediate JVM heap utilization, performance degradation, and systemic reliability bottlenecks.
  • Conduct root cause analysis leveraging centralized logging and monitoring platforms to drive continuous performance tuning and operational resilience.
  • Participate in on call rotations, responding to production incidents with urgency and structured resolution processes.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Active Security Plus certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Seven or more years of enterprise software development and DevSecOps experience within regulated or compliance driven environments
  • Five or more years designing and automating CI CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitLab in secure or government aligned settings
  • Three or more years implementing Infrastructure as Code, with strong preference for Terraform and working knowledge of Ansible
  • Two or more years of hands on AWS experience, including GovCloud or other government compliant cloud environments
  • Advanced expertise in Docker and containerization, ELK Stack including Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana, F5 load balancing technologies, and Sonatype Nexus artifact management
  • Deep understanding of DevSecOps methodologies, DoD and FedRAMP compliance standards, NIST frameworks, vulnerability management practices, and ATO lifecycle processes
  • Demonstrated analytical rigor with strong root cause analysis and complex problem solving capability
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across matrixed organizations with clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail with experience managing release documentation, audit artifacts, and configuration control processes
