Genesis10 is currently seeking a System Engineer for a 12+ month remote contract opportunity with a leading Technology and GIS Consulting Firm. This role will serve as an enterprise technology professional for the Enterprise Architecture Practice Area, providing technical direction and problem-solving expertise for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) projects, primarily for utility clients. The position involves modernizing and building on-premise systems, conducting requirements workshops, and ensuring the performance, scalability, and reliability of enterprise system solutions. Please note, business travel could be up to 50% at times.
Responsibilities: - Provide technical expertise for system design, implementation, assessment, consulting, hosting, and managed service engagements
- Build enterprise system solutions based on prescribed architecture designs involving infrastructure provisioning and core software installation and configuration
- Automate and orchestrate enterprise system solution deployments to support repeatable process development
- Create and manage database solutions, including enterprise geodatabases
- Ensure enterprise system solutions and deliverables are thoroughly tested, vetted, reviewed, and meet customer expectations
- Contribute to GIS Enterprise Architecture workshops and related discussions involving utility customers
- Support internal technology needs, including setup and administration tasks for managing physical server, storage, network, and appliance infrastructure
- Facilitate technical deliverables for projects, including requirements gathering, test cases, and administration guides
- Provide technical guidance and consulting for clients to embrace security in their datacenters
- Create and execute GIS system tuning and system threshold testing procedures
- Manage software application licensing and ensure license agreements are followed
- Serve as a mentor for others interested in enterprise system technologies
Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
- 8-11 years of work experience in enterprise system consulting and large-scale technology projects, preferably for utility customers
- 3-7 years of work experience in enterprise GIS with a combination of system implementation and administration
- Thorough background in deploying, configuring, and supporting Esri ArcGIS products (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online)
- In-depth experience with datacenter virtualization platforms such as VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V, and Nutanix
- Experience with enterprise system security solutions and best practices
- Knowledge of Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) technologies from vendors such as NVIDIA and AMD
- Understanding of Layer 4 and Layer 7 load balancing and reverse proxy solutions (e.g., F5 BIG-IP, NGINX)
- Experience with system monitoring and tuning tools such as ArcGIS Monitor, Dynatrace, or SolarWinds
- Hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, and containerization
- Experience with deployment orchestration tools such as Puppet, Chef, or Terraform
- Competent with managing enterprise applications including Microsoft Office 365, Azure DevOps, Citrix, and VMware vSphere
- Demonstrated experience with technologies for private cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments (VDI, VLANs, IAM, DNS, VPN)
- Active foundation-level technology certification (e.g., TOGAF, Microsoft, VMware, Esri) or the ability to become certified within 12 months
- Strong PC skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft Project
- Excellent interpersonal, professional, and communication skills
Pay range: $60.00 per hour
