We're seeking an HLA Technologist II who will have the opportunity to work in one of the best ASHI-Accredited HLA Labs in the country with world-renown Medical Directors as part of a leading teaching hospital. This role will provide exposure to complex situations and will require analytical and problem-solving skills.

Shifts Available:

  • Full-Time, 2:45pm - 11:15pm, Monday - Friday
  • Full-Time, 10pm - 6:30am, Sunday - Thursday
  • Full-Time, 7pm - 7:30am, Friday - Sunday

*Please note there is an on-call component to the position

  • Functions as a technical resource, performing complex assays and providing training and mentoring to other HLA staff.
  • Performs standardized and high-complexity histocompatibility testing on various types of clinical samples.
  • May perform tests in one scientific discipline or perform selected tests in multiple disciplines (crosstrain DNA/serology).
    • Tests may include: HLA antibody screen and identification, crossmatching, typing, and engraftment monitoring.
  • Contribute to sample processing, test preparation, testing results, and generate reports.
  • Serve as a technical resource for lower level technologist.
  • Evaluates the validity of test results according to transplant program needs and confirms results by alternative methods.
  • Uses knowledge of various complex laboratory techniques and procedures to generate quantitative and qualitative observations and initiate problem solving processes if indicated.
  • Must be able to take on-call assignments for nights, holidays, and weekends on a rotating basis.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a chemical, physical or biological science. Other bachelor's degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of medical technology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency.
  • Bachelor's degree may be waived for a medical technologist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services.
  • Two years of medical technology or HLA experience. (Medical Laboratory Technician experience is pro-rated).
  • Certification by one of the following accreditation agencies: MT (ASCP), MLS(ASCP) or categorical, MT(AMT), MT(HHS or HEW), MT(AAB), CHT(ACHI), CHS(ACHI).



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
