Candidate MUST work on the US Eastern Time Zone, Remote
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To lead a team in the design, development, maintenance, testing and debugging of software; to formulate/define system scope and objectives for assigned projects; to devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems; to prepare detailed specifications from which programs will be written; to be responsible for quality assurance reviews; may be responsible for project completion and user satisfaction; and to provide guidance and training to assigned team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Determine the impact of new programs on existing system operations and ensure their compatibility.
- Oversees development of system specifications through interaction with business users and sponsors; determines the feasibility of the resulting projects; and displays strong depth of knowledge in specific business subject areas. Assists in projecting software and hardware requirements.
- Oversees design, development, maintenance, testing and debugging of software ensuring Sedgwick software development lifecycle (SDLC) guidelines are followed.
- Formulates/defines project scope and objectives.
- Leads the development, modification, and maintenance of software to meet company needs and user suggestions.
- Prepares program documentation, including administrator and end user help documents.
- Directs other analysts/programmers; assigns, prioritizes and monitors workload.
- Provides guidance and training to team.
- Prepares status reports to department manager.
- Ensures successful completion of projects in conformance to project goals and requirements.
- Ensures proactive and cooperative relationships exist within the project team; remains accessible to project team members.
- Keeps up-to-date with technology changes and direction.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other duties as assigned. Supports the organization's quality program(s).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Administers company personnel policies in all areas and follows company staffing standards and training recommendations. Interviews, hires and establishes colleague performance development plans; conducts colleague performance discussions. Provides support, guidance, leadership, and motivation to maximize performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education & Licensing: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Information Systems or Computer Science major preferred.
- Experience Nine (9) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required to include five (5) years of program development experience with three (3) years specialized programming relative to program needs.
- Working knowledge of claims management applications preferred.

Technical Core:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure
- Knowledge of Claims Management, Insurance, US Healthcare terminologies, Workers Compensation, etc. would be a plus.
Java & Backend
- Senior Java Expertise: Minimum 5 years of experience in backend development using Java with a focus on building scalable RESTful APIs.
- Database Proficiency: Strong experience with MariaDB for primary production support, plus a solid background in SQL Server for cross-system data management and querying.
- Legacy & Integration Support: Ability to maintain and troubleshoot existing backend jobs written in PHP.
Frontend & Full-Stack Integration
- React Knowledge: Familiarity with React to collaborate effectively with frontend teams and ensure seamless API integration within the web application.
DevOps & Infrastructure
- Azure DevOps (ADO) Mastery: Proven ability to manage the CI/CD pipeline, specifically creating and releasing JAR files within Azure.
- Remote Troubleshooting: Experience using Remote Desktop (RDP) and terminal services to access, diagnose, and resolve issues on remote systems.
Agile Methodology & Workflow
- SDLC Management: Deep understanding of Agile ceremonies and workflows.
- ADO Storyboards: Experience managing tasks, tracking progress, and updating documentation specifically using Azure DevOps Storyboards.
