Summary

Senior Manager of Mechanical Reliability
Tampa, FL
On-Site Role
$170,000 - $180,000 per year
ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client, a leading utility provider, is seeking a Senior Manager of Mechanical Reliability to lead the development and execution of standardized fleet maintenance strategies for mechanical system assets within the Energy Supply division. Based in Tampa, FL, this role works closely with the Director of Asset Management and the AM Program Manager to develop and implement common approaches to mechanical system asset maintenance, ensuring effective operations, performance monitoring, and risk mitigation. The Senior Manager will oversee the Mechanical Reliability team, direct predictive monitoring and risk-based inspection programs, and facilitate efficiency initiatives such as the Unit Heat Rate and Efficiency Program. This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners, including regulators, consultants, and vendors. The ideal candidate will thrive in a power plant environment, managing both direct reports and cross-functional project teams, while championing safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Establish and oversee continuous, collaborative reliability management processes for mechanical systems, including asset criticality, failure mechanism monitoring plans, health indicator development, and determination of overall asset health and risk, in alignment with AM Program guidelines.
  • Facilitate performance monitoring and tracking of reliability metrics for mechanical system assets, including GADS reporting, management of change, benchmarking, and tracking functional performance and condition of mechanical systems.
  • Lead the Mechanical Reliability team for Energy Supply, driving performance monitoring, outage planning, and capital planning initiatives.
  • Lead the Predictive Monitoring (PdM) Program and Risk Based Inspections for Tampa Electric, coordinating the use of PdM technologies (thermography, vibration, acoustic) and overseeing fleet-level inspections and assessments such as tube sampling and NDE programs.
  • Facilitate the Unit Heat Rate and Efficiency Program, including the development and maintenance of plant thermodynamic models, identification, evaluation, and implementation of heat rate and efficiency projects, and exploration of AI performance monitoring opportunities.
  • Support Asset Management and Loss Control reporting requirements, ensuring all intelligence is captured, processed, and ingested into designated Asset Class Management Systems for fleet risk determination and mitigation.
  • Directly supervise the Mechanical Reliability team and provide indirect supervision to consultants and project teams.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (AM Program Manager, Energy Supply team members, including vice presidents, directors, managers, engineers, and technicians) and external partners (regulators, consultants, contractors, industry associations, and vendors).
  • Champion safety, health, and environmental standards within all reliability and maintenance activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of best practices in mechanical reliability strategies and processes.
WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university (required).
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical system design, implementation, operation, and maintenance (required).
  • Working knowledge of mechanical system design, reliability-centered maintenance practices, continuous improvement practices, and power delivery systems in electric utilities.
  • Strong understanding of power generation and delivery engineering principles and materials.
  • Ability to organize, lead, and resolve technical and process problems.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate individuals to meet organizational goals and personal development needs.
  • Good project management, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a power plant environment for extended periods, including irregular hours, overtime, and possible holidays.
  • Preferred: Florida Professional Engineer's License.
  • Preferred: 5 years of experience with combined-cycle generating units.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of system impact and mechanical system studies and related work.
  • Leadership competencies including: championing safety, health, and the environment; taking ownership and acting with integrity; driving business excellence for customers; building collaborative relationships; developing people and teams; cultivating innovation and embracing change; and thinking strategically with sound judgment.
