Position Overview:
We are seeking a Healthcare Interoperability / FHIR API Engineer to support a large-scale payer interoperability and prior authorization modernization initiative. This individual will work across healthcare API integrations, vendor onboarding, interoperability testing, and FHIR-based connectivity to help scale payer-provider integrations and support evolving CMS interoperability requirements.
The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical API integration expertise, healthcare interoperability knowledge, and the ability to work directly with vendors, architects, and operational stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.

Project Overview:
This initiative supports modernization of healthcare interoperability and prior authorization workflows within a payer environment. The project includes expanding FHIR-based integrations, supporting DaVinci interoperability standards, onboarding new vendor connections, and enhancing payer-provider API capabilities tied to CMS interoperability mandates and prior authorization modernization efforts.
The team is working closely with vendor partners and internal engineering groups to establish scalable interoperability patterns, improve API connectivity, and reduce dependency on external implementation vendors over time.

Team/Department:
This resource will support Medica?s healthcare interoperability and API integration initiatives within the clinical and prior authorization technology space. The engineer will collaborate closely with:
? Internal interoperability and engineering teams
? Solution architects
? Vendor implementation partners
? Clinical and operational stakeholders
? API and integration teams
This role will operate within a highly collaborative environment supporting enterprise modernization and payer-provider integration efforts.

Responsibilities:
? Support implementation and enhancement of FHIR-based healthcare interoperability integrations
? Work with vendor partners to establish, configure, test, and troubleshoot API connections
? Assist with implementation of DaVinci interoperability standards and CMS interoperability initiatives
? Validate FHIR payloads, API transactions, and endpoint configurations
? Participate in API testing, troubleshooting, code review, and integration validation
? Collaborate with architects and engineering teams on interoperability solution design
? Support onboarding and integration of external healthcare vendor systems
? Assist with configuration and integration activities within interoperability platforms and vendor tools
? Help document workflows, integration mappings, and technical processes
? Work across both development and implementation-focused responsibilities as needed
? Support transition of vendor-led implementations into internally supported capabilities

Required Experience:
? 5+ years of API and integration engineering experience
? Hands-on experience with FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources)
? Experience supporting healthcare interoperability initiatives within payer or provider organizations
? Strong understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and API integration patterns
? Experience working with healthcare interoperability standards and workflows
? Ability to work directly with vendors and business stakeholders
? Strong troubleshooting and API testing experience
? Experience reviewing technical integrations and validating interoperability workflows
? Comfortable operating in evolving, fast-moving environments with changing requirements
Preferred Experience:
? Experience with DaVinci implementation guides and standards
? Experience supporting CMS interoperability mandates (CMS-0057 preferred)
? Prior authorization workflow experience
? Payer-side healthcare experience strongly preferred
? Experience with InterSystems technologies or interoperability platforms
? Experience with MuleSoft integrations
? Experience with Epic integrations or healthcare ecosystem connectivity
? Java or Spring Boot development experience
? Experience with EDI or HL7v2 integrations
