At CVS Health, we're building a world of health around every consumer and surrounding ourselves with dedicated colleagues who are passionate about transforming health care.
As the nation's leading health solutions company, we reach millions of Americans through our local presence, digital channels and more than 300,000 purpose-driven colleagues - caring for people where, when and how they choose in a way that is uniquely more connected, more convenient and more compassionate. And we do it all with heart, each and every day.
Position Summary
CVS Health is recruiting for a Principal Engineer specializing in Cloud Automation Development. In this high-impact role, you are the Innovator & Problem-Solver who sees inefficiencies and immediately thinks, "How can I optimize and automate this?" You thrive on solving complex problems, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, and leading teams toward scalable, efficient solutions. Whether it's Infrastructure as Code (IaC), cloud automation, or streamlining CI/CD pipelines, you don't just implement solutions---you design them for the future. This role demands a visionary in automation who challenges conventional approaches and pioneers innovative solutions. You need to have a proven track record of building automation solutions from scratch. You'll support driving and executing on automation strategy across cloud and hybrid environments while ensuring scalability, security, and continuous improvement in all such initiatives.
Major Responsibilities
You will make an impact by:
1. Strategic Automation Leadership & Innovation
Drive automation strategy by leading the design and implementation of automation frameworks and solutions that improve infrastructure efficiency and deployment speed across cloud and on-premises environments.
Research emerging technologies, AI-driven automation, and self-healing infrastructure solutions, constantly asking "What's next?" and pushing for better, faster, smarter automation.
Champion an automation-first mindset, believing in reducing manual processes and increasing reliability while thinking beyond short-term fixes to build solutions that scale.
2. Infrastructure as Code & Configuration Management
Build and maintain automation scripts using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible to manage cloud and on-premises environments with comprehensive IaC frameworks.
Implement configuration management using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to ensure infrastructure is set up and maintained consistently across all environments.
Write scripts in Python, PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, and GoLang to automate repetitive tasks like provisioning servers, configuring networking, and deploying applications.
3. CI/CD Optimization & Cloud Infrastructure
Architect robust CI/CD pipelines that enable seamless development and deployment using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI/CD for continuous integration and deployment optimization.
Automate cloud services across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform to optimize performance and cost-efficiency while ensuring proper cloud network engineering with private endpoints, Private Service Connects, Cloud Native Firewalls, microsegmentation, and Transit Gateways.
Enhance system reliability by integrating monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, and ELK stack into automated workflows.
4. Security Automation & Team Cohesion
Implement security policies, automated compliance scans, and access control measures to protect critical infrastructure, ensuring every automation workflow created is secure, compliant, and resilient.
Mentor staff, establish best practices, and lead projects that accelerate automation initiatives, elevating those around you by sharing knowledge and fostering innovation.
Lead cross-functional teams in automation projects, influencing automation strategies and maintaining efficiency at scale while thinking in workflows and reducing manual tasks.
5. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, always asking "What's next?" and pushing for better automation solutions that reduce manual processes and increase system reliability.
Evaluate and implement emerging automation technologies, maintaining expertise in the latest tools and frameworks while establishing automation best practices across the organization.
Foster a collaborative, forward-thinking engineering culture focused on state-of-the-art automation technologies and innovative infrastructure solutions.
