Mainframe Systems & Automation Engineer (z/OS | Sysplex | Network)

Location: Plano, TX (Hybrid) Duration: Full Time Opportunity Job Description:

• We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Systems & Automation Engineer with strong expertise in z/OS system programming, network (SNA/TCP-IP), infrastructure support, and automation.
• This role is responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and automating mainframe environments across LPARs, Sysplex, and enterprise data centers, ensuring high availability, performance, and operational efficiency.
• The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience across mainframe system administration, network configuration, migration, capacity planning, and automation frameworks, with a focus on reducing manual effort and improving system reliability.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and support z/OS mainframe environments, including LPARs, Sysplex, and network configurations (SNA/TCP/IP, VTAM).
• Install, configure, and maintain system components, communication servers, and infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot issues, perform debugging, root cause analysis, and performance tuning.
• Design and implement automation solutions using Rexx, CLIST, JCL, and tools like IBM Workload Scheduler/Ansible.
• Automate batch workflows, system commands, monitoring, and recovery processes, including WTOR handling.
• Support mainframe migrations, upgrades, and data center transitions.
• Manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes.
• Monitor system performance, capacity, and workload optimization (CPU, DASD, batch processing).
• Ensure compliance, audit readiness, and proper documentation (runbooks, change records, version control).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to meet SLAs and improve operations.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in Mainframe System Programming / Infrastructure Support
• Strong hands-on experience with z/OS, LPARs, Sysplex, and network configuration
• Proficiency in Rexx, JCL, CLIST and automation frameworks
• Experience with mainframe migrations, performance tuning, and monitoring tools
• Experience with Ansible for z/OS or similar automation tools
• Certifications in IBM z/OS, Automation tools, or ITIL
