RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Austin, TX that is seeking an experienced contractor to support the assessment and planning phase of a VMware to Microsoft Azure migration. This role focuses on evaluating the current VMware environment, analyzing workloads, identifying risks and constraints, and helping define a realistic migration roadmap and timeline. This is an assessment-only role (no execution).
Responsibilities:
* Assess the current VMware environment (vSphere, ESXi, storage, networking, supporting services)
* Inventory and classify workloads, identifying Azure-ready vs. non-migratable workloads
* Document application dependencies, performance requirements, and operational constraints
* Analyze workloads for Azure suitability (lift-and-shift, rehost, refactor)
* Identify workloads not supported in Azure and recommend alternative hosting options (e.g., third-party IaaS)
* Support development of a phased migration strategy, sequencing, and high-level architecture
* Contribute to migration roadmap, timeline estimates, risks, and assumptions
* Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security, application teams, and Microsoft/partner resources
* Produce clear documentation suitable for technical and executive audiences
REQUIREMENTS:
* 3-5+ years of experience in infrastructure or cloud migration roles
* Strong VMware experience (vSphere, ESXi, related infrastructure)
* Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Azure IaaS and migration patterns
* Experience performing cloud migration assessments and planning
* Strong documentation and communication skills
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
