Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead AWS Data Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and modernization of cloud-native healthcare data platforms. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in AWS Data & Analytics services, enterprise data architecture, DataOps practices, and large-scale data integration initiatives.
This role will serve as the technical lead for cloud data modernization initiatives, providing architectural direction, hands-on engineering oversight, governance guidance, and project leadership to ensure successful delivery of secure, scalable, and business-aligned data solutions.
The Lead AWS Data Architect will work closely with business stakeholders, project managers, data engineers, governance teams, and client leadership to drive successful implementation of modern data platforms and analytics ecosystems.
Mandatory Eligibility:
Experience in public sector and cloud native health data infrastructure is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Solution Design
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise-scale AWS Data Lake and Lakehouse solutions.
- Define scalable data architectures using modern cloud-native services and best practices.
- Design and implement data ingestion, transformation, integration, storage, and consumption frameworks.
- Establish enterprise data standards, architecture principles, and reusable design patterns.
- Ensure alignment of technical solutions with business goals and regulatory requirements.
Cloud Data Engineering Leadership
- Provide technical leadership and oversight to data engineering teams.
- Guide the development of automated ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS-native services.
- Review solution designs, code, and deployment strategies to ensure quality and maintainability.
- Drive performance optimization, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence.
Data Governance & Quality
- Support implementation of data governance frameworks, metadata management, data cataloging, lineage, and stewardship practices.
- Collaborate with business and technical teams to establish data quality standards and monitoring processes.
- Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
DataOps & DevOps
- Define and implement DataOps practices across development, testing, deployment, and operations.
- Establish CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automated deployment processes.
- Promote version control, release management, monitoring, and operational governance practices.
- Drive adoption of Agile and DevOps methodologies.
Project & Stakeholder Leadership
- Collaborate with project managers to support project planning, estimation, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Participate in project governance, status reporting, stakeholder communications, and executive updates.
- Provide technical guidance during project planning, sprint reviews, architecture reviews, and steering committee meetings.
- Support vendor, client, and cross-functional team coordination activities.
- Mentor junior architects, engineers, and technical team members.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, or Data Management.
- 7+ years of hands-on AWS cloud experience.
- 5+ years designing and implementing enterprise Data Lake, Lakehouse, or Analytics platforms.
- Experience leading cloud data modernization and migration initiatives.
- Experience working with healthcare, payer, provider, government, or regulated industry datasets.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and managing client-facing engagements.
