Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Tech Lead (Java Payments) with deep expertise in modern Java engineering and large scale distributed systems. The ideal consultant is a proactive problem solver who anticipates risks, drives delivery, and brings strong engineering judgment to complex payment processing environments.
Key Responsibilities
Convert leadership direction into actionable engineering plans and drive them to completion.
Think ahead-identify dependencies, risks, and gaps before they impact delivery.
Quickly unblock teams by engaging the right stakeholders; does not wait for answers.
Apply critical thinking to challenge assumptions and propose stronger technical solutions.
Lead design, development, and optimization of high throughput, low latency payment systems.
Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance across distributed processing environments.
Leverage AI tools daily to accelerate development and improve engineering productivity.

Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of hands on enterprise software engineering experience.
Expert-level proficiency in modern Java (Java 17+), Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
Strong experience with Kafka/MQ, distributed processing, or large scale data platforms.
Deep knowledge of relational databases, SQL tuning, and data modeling.
Strong experience with Oracle, IBM MQ, and event-driven architectures.
Proven background building or supporting high throughput, low latency payment systems.
Experience in the financial services industry (banking, payments, capital markets, fintech).
International and Domestic Payment transactions experience is a mandatory .
Demonstrated leadership in guiding engineering teams and influencing cross functional partners.
Daily use of AI engineering tools with solid engineering judgment.

Nice to Have
Payment's domain experience: ACH, Wire, Instant Payments, RTP, FedNow, etc.
Experience in regulated or compliance heavy environments.

Do NOT submit candidates without Payment Systems experience and prior Lead experience.
Consultants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship.
No OPT / STEM be willing to work onsite in NYC/NJ.
