Position Overview
We are seeking a Database Management Specialist responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, performance, and availability of enterprise SQL Server environments supporting critical business operations. This role includes database administration, cloud infrastructure support, disaster recovery planning, performance optimization, and database modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments supporting business-critical applications, ensuring high availability, optimal performance, and long-term scalability.
- Monitor database health, performance, storage utilization, and system availability while proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact business operations.
- Design, implement, and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies that support business continuity objectives and minimize operational risk.
- Configure and support high-availability solutions including Always On Availability Groups, failover mechanisms, and Azure-based recovery services.
- Optimize database performance through query analysis, indexing strategies, configuration tuning, resource utilization monitoring, and performance diagnostics.
- Implement and maintain database security controls, encryption mechanisms, access management policies, and auditing capabilities that protect sensitive business and personal information.
- Support Azure-hosted SQL Server environments, including virtual machine administration, storage management, patching activities, monitoring configurations, and infrastructure optimization.
- Collaborate with application developers, architects, business analysts, and infrastructure teams to support new initiatives, troubleshoot issues, and improve overall platform performance.
- Assist with database migrations, upgrades, maintenance activities, and modernization efforts that support evolving business and technology requirements.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, recovery plans, and governance standards that support long-term database administration activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Seven (7) or more years of database administration experience supporting enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Five (5) or more years of experience supporting large-scale production database systems within complex business or government environments.
- Demonstrated expertise administering SQL Server 2019 or newer versions, including installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Experience implementing and supporting high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including backup strategies, recovery planning, and business continuity initiatives.
- Strong understanding of database security principles, encryption technologies, access controls, auditing requirements, and data protection best practices.
- Experience supporting cloud-hosted database environments, preferably within Microsoft Azure Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environments.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues involving application workloads, infrastructure dependencies, and resource utilization challenges.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical teams, business stakeholders, and leadership groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Federal, State, or Local Government agencies where operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and security requirements are critical.
- Experience working within workers\'' compensation, insurance, healthcare, claims processing, financial services, or other highly regulated industries that manage sensitive information and large transactional datasets.
- Familiarity with workers\'' compensation claims data, case management systems, adjudication workflows, reporting environments, or regulatory record retention requirements.
- Experience supporting Azure Data Factory, data integration pipelines, ETL processes, business intelligence initiatives, and enterprise reporting environments.
- Experience implementing HIPAA, CJIS, state government security standards, or similar compliance frameworks applicable to sensitive business and personal information.
- Knowledge of Azure Blob Storage, Azure networking concepts, Network Security Groups (NSGs), storage optimization, and cloud-based backup architectures.
- Experience supporting Power BI reporting environments, data models, dashboards, and analytics initiatives that enable business decision-making.
- Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent database administration certifications are highly desirable.
