Period of Performance: 6 months + high likelihood of extension on W2

Citizenship: U.S. Citizen /

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise server, storage, virtualization, automation, and cloud infrastructure. This role serves as a senior technical resource providing engineering expertise, Tier 3 support, infrastructure automation, and technical leadership across a highly virtualized and increasingly hybrid cloud environment. The position has a strong emphasis on Infrastructure as Code and Policy as Code practices using modern automation platforms.

Client is actively modernizing its infrastructure - rolling out Tanium for endpoint management, evaluating Nutanix as an IaC-managed alternative to existing virtualization, and executing a multi-year shift of workloads to Azure (ExpressRoute is already live from all locations). Success in this role requires balancing hands-on engineering and automation with technical leadership - including mentoring, architecture input, and process improvement - across a highly virtualized, multi-platform, increasingly hybrid-cloud environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and administer enterprise server and storage solutions while supporting security, compliance, and architecture standards.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code and Policy as Code solutions using tools such as Terraform, Vault, Packer, and Puppet.
  • Support enterprise endpoint and systems management initiatives.
  • Participate in virtualization platform evaluation and modernization efforts.
  • Analyze infrastructure utilization and contribute to capacity planning and future growth initiatives, including cloud migration activities.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership, development teams, and third party vendors to design scalable infrastructure solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on infrastructure technologies and project initiatives.
  • Own and resolve escalated Level 3 infrastructure incidents from identification through resolution.
  • Identify automation opportunities that improve operational efficiency and reduce recurring support demands.
  • Provide technical mentorship, training, and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to infrastructure architecture decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Associate degree in Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 to 6 years of progressive experience administering server, storage, and network infrastructure.
  • Hands on experience with Infrastructure as Code and Policy as Code methodologies and platforms such as Terraform, Vault, Packer, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with configuration management platforms such as Puppet, Ansible, or Chef.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and IIS.
  • Experience supporting VMware virtualization environments and related administration tools.
  • Knowledge of SAN, NAS, Fibre Channel storage technologies, and core networking concepts.
  • Strong understanding of server hardware, backup and recovery, and infrastructure security fundamentals.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Preferred:
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud connectivity solutions.
  • Scripting and automation experience with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Perl.
  • Experience with Nutanix infrastructure platforms.
  • Experience with enterprise endpoint management platforms such as Tanium.
  • Industry certifications including HashiCorp, VMware, Microsoft Azure, ITIL, or PMP.
  • Experience with MDM, VDI, Microsoft System Center, Citrix, SQL Server, backup platforms, collaboration solutions, UNIX systems, or legacy infrastructure technologies.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Terraform
  • Vault
  • Packer
  • Puppet
  • Microsoft Azure
  • VMware
  • Windows Server
  • Active Directory
  • IIS
  • SAN and NAS Storage
  • Fibre Channel
