Job Description:
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and support enterprise environments with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure IaaS and VMware platforms. This role is responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and highly available infrastructure solutions across hybrid environments, driving cloud adoption, and optimizing virtualization platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Azure infrastructure services and VMware technologies, with a proven ability to modernize on-premises environments and integrate them with cloud-based solutions. Experience with enterprise VDI solutions, including Citrix, is considered a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Engineering
• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise Microsoft and VMware infrastructure supporting business-critical applications.
• Engineer hybrid environments integrating on-premises data centers with Microsoft Azure and VMware cloud/virtualization platforms.
• Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives, including cloud migrations, VMware and Hyper-V virtualization upgrades, platform consolidation, and workload migrations.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure standards, reference architectures, system documentation, and service roadmaps across Microsoft and VMware ecosystems.
• Ensure systems meet performance, reliability, security, and compliance standards.
Cloud Platform Engineering (Azure)
• Deploy and manage Azure infrastructure including Virtual Machines, VM Scale Sets, Virtual Networks, Storage, Backup and Site Recovery.
• Utilize Azure Arc for hybrid infrastructure management.
• Manage Azure governance, policies, cost management, and security best practices.
• Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions in Azure.
• Automation: Implement Infrastructure as Code using Bicep, ARM templates, or Desired State Configuration (DSC).
Microsoft Server & Core Services
• Administer and optimize Windows Server environments, including configuration, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Design and manage enterprise identity and directory services using Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
• Manage hybrid identity integration with Microsoft Entra Connect.
• Maintain Group Policy architecture, DNS, DHCP, domain trusts, multi-domain environments, and certificate services (PKI).
• Administer enterprise backup and recovery solutions using Commvault, including backup configuration, policy management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing data recovery
• Automation: develop automation using PowerShell for system provisioning, configuration, patching, and monitoring.
Monitoring, Security & Compliance
• Manage enterprise monitoring and alerting across systems and cloud services (SolarWinds, Azure Monitor).
• Conduct system health checks, performance optimization, and capacity planning.
• Implement system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and identity protection.
Virtualization & End-User Computing
• Design, deploy, and support enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) across on-premises and cloud platforms.
• Deliver and manage Windows desktop environments, including persistent and non-persistent (multi-session) workloads.
• Support core VDI infrastructure components such as brokering, provisioning, access gateways, and performance optimization tools.
Leadership & Collaboration
• Team player with strong collaboration and communications skills
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical personnel
• Must be a self-starter: ability to work independently without close supervision
• Other skills: Must demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude, a strong desire to learn, strong customer service skills, reliability, proven problem-solving skills, the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment, open to new ideas, flexibility to apply new concepts and technologies, and the ability to work a flexible work schedule with off hours work as needed.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to other engineers and stakeholders.
• Lead or participate in architecture reviews, infrastructure planning, and project implementation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including networking, security, DevOps, application development, and cybersecurity.
• Act as a service owner for key infrastructure platforms, documenting current state, future state, and roadmaps.
• Lead root cause analysis for major incidents and implement preventive solutions.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of enterprise systems engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with:
o VMware infrastructure
o Windows Server administration
o Microsoft Azure infrastructure
o Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID / hybrid identity
o Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (a plus)
• Experience with automation (PowerShell, Infrastructure as Code) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven ability to design, deploy, and manage hybrid cloud environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and system architecture skills.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
