Position DescriptionAbout Harris County Flood Control District:The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens bayou.
What you will do at Harris County Flood Control District:The Harris County Flood Control District (District) is seeking qualified interns to join our Engineering team. As an intern, under the direct supervision of an experienced project manager, you will assist in implementing projects and defined tasks for the District while concurrently acquiring basic technical engineering skills. Assignments will be designed to develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
This 12-week paid internship program will provide candidates with an exciting opportunity to learn 'real world' experience and gain clarity on their ideal career path. Working with our organization will also offer the opportunity to contribute to various community development initiatives.
Essential Functions & Duties:- Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.
- Review and learn from engineering plans and specifications.
- Exercise judgment with supervision in developing details of work in making preliminary selections of engineering alternatives.
- Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
- Attend construction site meetings and project progress meetings to gain understanding of construction techniques and project milestones.
- Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

- Must have completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework in civil engineering, or a similar curriculum with preliminary studies focused on relevant water resource systems.
- Must be in good standing.
