An internal pre-identified candidate for consideration has been identified. However, all applications will be considered. We are searching for the best talent for NPI Test Engineer.POSITION SUMMARYWe are seeking a highly technical
NPI Test Engineer to bridge R&D and Manufacturing within a complex electromechanical robotics platform. This role is responsible for defining, developing, deploying, and continuously improving hardware test solutions across the product lifecycle, including design verification, NPI transfer, in-process testing, and yield optimization.
You will design scalable test architectures for PCA, sub-assemblies, and robotic subsystems (motor drivers, encoder boards, power systems, communication interfaces), ensuring robust validation while enabling manufacturing efficiency and throughput.
This role requires deep expertise in hardware validation, automated test development, signal integrity, embedded systems, and data-driven root cause analysis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESDevelopment Phase (R&D / NPI)- Define hardware validation strategy (DV, characterization, stress screening).
- Develop board-level and subsystem-level validation test plans.
- Design automated test fixtures for PCAs and robotic sub-assemblies.
- Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and mechanical teams to ensure testability (DFT/DFM).
- Perform signal-level validation (SPI, I2C, UART, EtherCAT, motor control loops, encoder signals).
- Conduct failure analysis and structured root cause investigations.
Manufacturing Phase (In-Process & Production)- Deploy scalable in-process test solutions for PCA and electromechanical assemblies.
- Improve First Pass Yield (FPY) using statistical analysis and failure pareto tracking.
- Develop automated test scripts (Python/LabVIEW/Embedded C).
- Drive fixture optimization for throughput (UPH) and reliability.
- Lead corrective actions with suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Reduce test escapes through improved coverage and screening methodology.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (PhD preferred).
- 5+ years in hardware validation, product development, test, or manufacturing test engineering.
- Experience with:
- Motor control systems (BLDC, servo drivers, encoder feedback)
- Mixed-signal electronics
- High-speed digital interfaces
- Embedded microcontrollers / DSP/ FPGA systems
- Experience developing automated test systems (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, etc.).
- Strong root cause analysis and structured problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience- Medical device or robotics experience.
- Experience with EtherCAT or industrial communication protocols.
- Experience designing test fixtures (relay matrices, data acquisition systems, boundary scan).
- Statistical process control (SPC), MSA, GR&R.
- Experience transitioning products from R&D to manufacturing (NPI lifecycle).
What Success Looks Like- Increased FPY through intelligent test architecture.
- Reduced test time without compromising coverage.
- Improved design-for-test integration early in development.
- Strong collaboration between R&D and Manufacturing teams.
- Data-driven yield improvement programs with measurable impact.
- This is a high-impact engineering position where you will architect and deploy test systems that directly influence product reliability, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing scalability for advanced robotics systems.
