Essential Duties

  • Provides lead oversight for HVAC Specialists and other workers in the maintenance of buildings and plants.
  • Performs journey-level and specialized installation, maintenance, and repairs of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
  • Participates in designing plans for new equipment and systems installations; develops heating and air conditioning specifications and diagrams.
  • Operates a centrally-operated, computerized energy management system; modifies parameters through software to control heating and air conditioning equipment; installs energy management hardware to control HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Ensures proper adjustments and parameter modifications needed to keep the central plant operating and staging properly for longer equipment longevity expectancy and optimal operation and energy management.
  • Maintains and keeps track of HVAC equipment maintenance scheduling in a computerized system, and maintains updated logs of services performed on equipment.
  • Provides technical support to HVAC Specialists for complicated diagnostic and repairs made to HVAC equipment and energy management systems.
  • Participates in HVAC system upgrades, maintains equipment replacement and/or add-ons.
  • Researches and recommends appropriate and right capacity equipment as per existing equipment and site needs.
  • Provides training to HVAC Specialists on servicing, maintaining, and operating the central plants, including all chillers, HVAC units and sophisticated controls including monitoring software and tools.
  • Troubleshoots live high voltage control circuits and systems on chillers and air conditioning systems that are interfaced with energy management systems to diagnose damaged or worn out components; repairs or replaces parts.
  • Operates a wide range of tools and testing devices to locate technical problems with HVAC equipment and energy management systems, including circuit cards and computer software.
  • Prepares tubing, piping, joints and fittings for new installations or equipment repairs.
  • Cuts, threads, reams, bends, and joins tubing and/or pipe by welding and brazing.
  • Operates welding and brazing equipment to join pipes and tubing.
  • Conducts work in the field and in confined small and tight crawl spaces.
  • Performs general electrical repairs pertaining to HVAC equipment.
  • Installs and adjusts switches, gauges, pneumatic thermostats, valves, and controllers.
  • Lubricates, cleans, and adjusts HVAC equipment; changes air filters, cleans strainers, descales tubing, and services and maintains compressors.
  • Replaces and repairs compressors, motors, fans, valves, thermometers and belts on HVAC equipment.
  • Conducts inspections of systems for leaks, abnormal noise, and electrical defects; reviews testing to determine required repairs.
  • Performs HVAC equipment installations including air ducts, evaporative coolers, diffusers, condensers, controls and other parts related to HVAC systems.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on air handlers, pumps and other related equipment.
  • Provides assistance and oversight with construction projects affecting HVAC equipment or systems.
  • Performs and oversees preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Works from diagrams, blueprints, layouts, work orders, verbal instructions, or other specifications to install, troubleshoot, and test HVAC systems.
  • Plans and estimates costs for projects, and communicates with outside vendors, manufacturers and other personnel to requisition and purchase HVAC materials and supplies.
  • Adheres to and complies with common HVAC-related codes and standards while installing, maintaining and/or repairing HVAC systems and related equipment.
  • Maintains tools, equipment and work site in a clean and safe working condition; reports technical issues and problems to the assigned supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Skills
  • Universal Certification or EPA 608 Certification or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience.


Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of VAS/BMS systems such as Metasys or equivalent.
