Role Summary
The Functional Consultant for a Transportation Management System (TMS) is responsible for data collection at sites, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of the TMS platform within the organization. This role acts as the bridge between business stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners to ensure the TMS solution aligns with operational goals, supports logistics strategy, and delivers measurable improvements in transportation performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Functional Leadership & Requirements Gathering
- Lead discovery sessions with business stakeholders and multiple sites to understand transportation processes, pain points, and system needs.
- Create a good relationship with sites for collecting required information:
- Different asset types, specification of each asset and condition of assets
- Specific requirements for driver and assets for each route requirements
- Any specialized requirements for customers
- Any location specific and material specific requirements
- Translate business requirements into detailed functional specifications.
- Define future-state transportation processes
2. TMS Solution Design & Configuration
- Guide development team on functional configuration of the TMS, including:
- Assets and driver management
- Mode/route optimization
- Rate structures and contracts
- Load planning & execution
- Visibility and tracking features
- Carrier management
- Reporting
- Ensure solution design aligns with corporate supply chain strategy and compliance requirements.
3. Implementation & Deployment
- Work closely with the technical team and business stakeholders to document any challenges with data flow between different systems
- Help in planning UAT (User Acceptance Testing) and validating end-to-end transport processes.
- Guide development team on site specific special requirements, additional programming requirements and system adoption at site.
- Measure and report adoption and any issues with adoption.
4. Continuous Improvement & Optimization
- Analyze transportation KPIs and system performance to recommend improvements.
- Identify opportunities to leverage new TMS features, upgrades, and innovations.
5. Stakeholder & Site Relation Management
- Serve as the primary functional contact for sites and implementation partners.
- Managing stakeholders and dispatch team at sites for adopting TMS.
- Provide training, documentation, and change management support to end users.
6. Governance & Support
- Managing asset inventory at multiple sites.
- Managing driver pool at multiple sites and documenting qualifications.
- Managing transportation dashboards.
- Guide on maintaining system controls, user roles, and audit compliance.
- Troubleshoot functional issues and partner with IT for resolution.
- Guide IT team on creating SOPs, knowledge base articles, and best practice process guidelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field
- 2+ years of transportation or supply chain management experience.
- 1+ years of hands on experience with major TMS platforms (e.g., Oracle TMS, SAP TM, Blue Yonder, Manhattan, MercuryGate, FourKites, etc.).
- Knowledge of:
- Load planning/dispatch processes
- Optimization parameters and optimization engines
- Ability to download reports and analyze data in excel.
- Create charts, presentations and status reports for senior level management.
- Experience leading cross functional projects or system implementations.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to translate operational needs and work with IT for development
- Ability to travel on weekly basis to multiple locations for data collection to East coast and mid-west locations.
- Data collection and implementation work will be completed by end of 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale digital transformations or multi-region TMS deployments.
- Familiarity with optimization engines, machine learning based routing, or control tower platforms.
- Knowledge of regulatory transportation compliance (FMCSA, hazardous materials, international trade, etc.).

Travel Requirements
- This position requires 90% travel on week-to-week basis to multiple client sites (typically one client site per week).
- Typically it is required to travel on Monday morning to client site and leave from client sites on Friday.
- Most of the locations are in the East and Midwest time zone in US
- Candidate should be preferably located near major airport to take direct flights to these locations
