Onsite | Microsoft Systems Engineer | Contract
We are actively recruiting a Microsoft Systems Engineer for our client in Oak Ridge, TN. This is a 6month contract opportunity with high likelihood of extension, and it will require 100% onsite work in Oak Ridge. This is an excellent opportunity to support an environment undergoing major modernization of its Microsoft infrastructure. Must have deep experience with Microsoft systems engineering, domain controller upgrades, Active Directory, Group Policy, and security hardening in complex environments.

About the Role
The client is undergoing rapid regional growth and faces substantial modernization needs across its Microsoft ecosystem. The selected engineer will be responsible for upgrading core infrastructure, strengthening security posture, and guiding the transition toward more modern virtualization and identity management platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute domain controller upgrades, ensuring compatibility with legacy, missioncritical systems.
- Engineer, maintain, and optimize Active Directory, Group Policy, and M365 environments.
- Conduct system hardening and strengthen the security posture, leveraging tools such as SentinelOne.
- Provide expertise in secure design, risk mitigation, and assessing downstream impacts prior to implementation.
- Contribute to the longterm transition from VMware to Proxmox, supporting strategy and execution.
- Assist with cleanup and modernization of Entra ID and M365 Group Policies, including migration of roaming profiles to OneDrive.
- Participate in project planning, documentation, and consultative advising regarding future-state systems.
- Work effectively within a small team supporting critical, zerodowntime, citywide infrastructure systems.
- Leverage experience with tools such as NinjaOne, SolarWinds, or similar platforms for operations and monitoring.
