Description Perform structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities. Design structural components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers. Apply strong knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural engineering services industry. Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers. Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software. Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities. Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients. Compile with all policies and standards. Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Primarily domestic travel up to 25% is required based on project needs.
Qualifications Requires a Bachelor's degree, in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering Technology*, or a directly related field from an accredited program plus three (3) years of structural engineering experience. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master's degree, in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from an accredited program plus two (2) years of structural engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years of described experience.
*A Bachelor's Degree in any Engineering Technology field must be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. A Master's Degree in Science or Engineering need not be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Must have two (2) years of experience in each of the following:
- Designing multiple structural elements such as shallow and deep foundations, and steel girder infill beams.
- Structural analysis software such as RAM structural system, Risa 3D/2D, Etabs, RISA foundation, or Etabs.
- Structural BIM modeling programs such as Revit.
- Spreadsheet programs such as Excel and software applications designing for performing, documenting, and sharing engineering calculations such as Enercalc or MathCAD.
- Reviewing shop drawings submitted by contractors of multiple construction material types.
- Preparing construction documents including drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Leading design tasks, mentoring and delegating work tasks to team members.
