Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Developer with strong Apache Flink experience to join a banking and financial services technology team supporting PNC Bank. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of software development experience with strong expertise in Java, backend development, distributed systems, real-time data processing, and Apache Flink.
The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and maintaining highly scalable backend applications and real-time data processing solutions. Experience working in financial services, banking, or other highly regulated environments is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build high-performance, distributed, and fault-tolerant applications for enterprise banking systems.
- Develop real-time and event-driven data processing pipelines using Apache Flink.
- Work with streaming data and develop solutions for real-time processing, transformation, enrichment, and analytics.
- Design and implement RESTful APIs and backend microservices using Java and Spring technologies.
- Develop applications using microservices and cloud-native architecture patterns.
- Work with Apache Kafka and other messaging or event-streaming technologies for asynchronous data processing.
- Optimize Flink jobs for performance, scalability, reliability, and efficient resource utilization.
- Develop and maintain data ingestion and processing workflows handling high-volume transactional and streaming data.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, business analysts, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in application design, technical discussions, code reviews, debugging, and production support.
- Troubleshoot complex application, data-processing, performance, and integration issues.
- Write clean, maintainable, reusable, and production-quality Java code.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests and participate in end-to-end testing activities.
- Follow secure coding, development standards, CI/CD practices, and enterprise engineering processes.
- Monitor application health and investigate production issues using appropriate logging and monitoring tools.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of backend architecture, development processes, and engineering practices.
Required Technical Skills
- 10+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Java
- Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Flink
- Experience developing real-time data processing and streaming applications
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architecture
- Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and data structures
- Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or similar testing frameworks
- Experience with Git and modern source-control practices
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Experience working with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
Preferred Skills
- Experience in Banking / Financial Services
- Experience working with high-volume financial or transactional data
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, or other distributed data-processing technologies
- Experience with schema management and data serialization technologies such as Avro, JSON, or Protobuf
- Experience with performance tuning of Java and Flink applications
- Knowledge of observability and monitoring tools
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale production applications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
