SummaryProvide administrative and adjudicative support to professional staff responsible for determining eligibility for Social Security disability benefits. Duties include performing initial evaluations, requesting and reviewing medical records, contacting disability applicants to complete forms and answer questions, and handling incoming phone calls.
The role involves accessing and managing confidential information, including personal demographics, Social Security numbers, earnings records, work histories, prior disability filings, and medical information through Social Security electronic systems. The resource will enter and transfer sensitive information, monitor consultative examination providers, coordinate medical evidence and examinations, verify medical records, authorize payments according to applicable policies and procedures, and maintain vendor files.
The position also performs general office operations and other assigned duties.

Positions in this job family provide skilled adjudicative and administrative support to professional staff responsible for determining eligibility for disability benefits under federal Social Security provisions.
Typical Functions- Conduct initial reviews of Social Security disability claims and identify deficiencies requiring resolution.
- Access confidential information, including demographics, earnings records, work histories, prior disability filings, and medical information using Social Security electronic systems.
- Enter, update, and transfer sensitive information within appropriate systems.
- Manage caseloads requiring limited development at initial and appellate levels.
- Assist with caseload management and refer cases for final determination when necessary.
- Review disability allegations and medical evidence to identify cases requiring special handling and expedited processing.
- Monitor consultative examination providers to ensure appointments and medical reports are completed on time.
- Arrange for medical evidence, physical and mental examinations, and transportation when needed.
- Review medical records for completeness before authorizing payments according to applicable policies and procedures.
- Perform technical reviews of completed disability cases to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
- Interview and communicate with claimants, representatives, medical professionals, program personnel, attorneys, judges, and vendors to collect information and respond to inquiries.
- Train other staff members as needed.
- Perform general office operations and other assigned duties.
This is an entry-level position. The selected candidate will receive training in various aspects of the Social Security Disability Program and applicable policies and procedures.
Under immediate supervision, the resource will be trained on relevant computer applications and will learn to communicate with claimants, representatives, field office personnel, and others involved in the disability process. The candidate will also learn to identify medical sources, understand common medical terminology, and assist with the development and adjudication of disability claims.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and correct English usage
