Platform Engineer (Azure Gov)
Location: Houston, Texas - Hybrid
Engagement: 12‑Month Contract
Must be eligible to work on W2 without a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Platform Engineer to design and deliver foundational automation, templates, and onboarding patterns that support application migration into a secure Azure Government (Azure Gov) enclave. This role is focused on platform maturity, developer enablement, and eliminating manual processes through standardized pipelines, reusable templates, and well-defined onboarding paths.
The Platform Engineer will work closely with Application Security, Cloud Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, and external partners to enable secure, scalable, and repeatable application onboarding into the Azure Gov environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain platform automation, templates, and golden paths to accelerate application onboarding into Azure Gov
- Design and implement standardized CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions (YAML) to support secure, repeatable deployments
- Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) patterns using Terraform (with some Bicep exposure)
- Partner with Application Security and security teams to embed compliance, guardrails, and secure-by-default practices into platform workflows
- Enable application teams through clear onboarding patterns, documentation, and tooling, reducing friction and manual effort
- Collaborate with Cloud Engineering and Enterprise Architecture to align platform solutions with enterprise standards
- Continuously improve platform maturity by identifying opportunities for automation, standardization, and process optimization
- Support application migration initiatives by providing scalable, repeatable onboarding frameworks rather than one-off solutions
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Cloud Engineering roles
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (Azure Gov preferred)
- Proven experience building and maintaining GitHub Actions pipelines using YAML
- Experience developing platform templates, automation frameworks, or golden paths
- Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, primarily Terraform (Bicep exposure is a plus)
- Experience collaborating with Application Security and security teams
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in Azure Government or secure enclave environments
- Familiarity with CMMC and NIST 800‑171 compliance requirements
- Kubernetes experience, including AKS and Helm
- Scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, or Bash
- Experience contributing to or building internal developer platforms (IDPs)
What Success Looks Like
- Applications can be onboarded into Azure Gov quickly and consistently using standardized patterns
- CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure templates reduce manual effort and security risk
- Platform tooling enables development teams to self‑service within defined guardrails
- Security and compliance requirements are embedded into the platform by default, not bolted on later
