Summary

Role: Network Operations Engineer
Rate: $50/hour W2
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Schedule: Hybrid (4 days onsite) | On call rotation every 12 days | 40 hours/week

The Network Operations Engineer is responsible for maintaining the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of a large scale virtual CMTS (vCMTS) platform. This role blends Linux systems engineering with network operations and requires strong incident response skills, hands on troubleshooting, and comfort working in a 24/7 environment. The engineer will support system installation, network configuration, platform upgrades, and operational workflows while collaborating with software development, engineering, product, and project management teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain vCMTS platform software, system components, and network infrastructure.
  • Perform system upgrades, RMA hardware replacements, and operational tasks involving physical server hardware.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Linux system issues, network incidents, and service degradations.
  • Support periodic maintenance windows (typically every 2–3 months), assisting as needed during off hours.
  • Identify recurring service impacting issues and collaborate with development teams on long term solutions.
  • Support new product integration in partnership with Product and Project Management.
  • Manage and maintain network configurations, including routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
  • Execute operational responsibilities in a 24/7 environment following established procedures and escalation paths.
  • Contribute to defining, implementing, and monitoring IT services and operational workflows.
  • Communicate proactively regarding extra hours; compensatory time is available when workloads spike (e.g., back to back maintenance or heavy weekend on calls).

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in production operations, network engineering, or systems operations within a 24/7 environment.
  • Strong proficiency with Linux/Ubuntu systems, including hands on troubleshooting.
  • Skilled in networking and configuration, with experience on Juniper and Arista switches (Cisco experience acceptable).
  • CCNA / CCNP or Juniper Equivalent preferred (certification optional but equivalent knowledge required).
  • Hands on experience with physical server hardware, replacement workflows, and RMAs.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Solid understanding of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Jenkins, Ansible, or Git.
  • Background in building or replacing system hardware.
  • Exposure to new product integration processes.
  • Experience defining and monitoring IT services.

Work Environment
  • Fast paced, mission critical 24/7 operations team.
  • On call rotation every 12 days, including weekends and holidays.
  • Maintenance windows every 2–3 months (primarily handled offshore but may require assistance).
  • Collaborative environment with engineering, development, and product teams.
  • Onsite presence required four days per week.
  • Not a standard 9–5 role; flexibility required for escalations, incidents, and scheduled maintenance work.
