Lenel Installation Technician
2. Role Summary

The Lenel Installation Technician supports the deployment of enterprise-grade access control solutions for a federal client of ours, with Columbia, MD serving as the home base. In this field-focused role, you will install, configure, and activate Lenel OnGuard access control systems across naval bases throughout the Columbia region. Working closely with project managers, security engineers, and customer stakeholders, you will help deliver secure, reliable, and compliant physical security infrastructure that protects federal facilities, personnel, and assets. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity ideal for technicians with hands-on low-voltage and physical security installation experience.
3. Core Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot Lenel OnGuard access control systems.
  • Mount, wire, and test access control hardware including readers, panels, controllers, power supplies, and door components.
  • Perform low-voltage cabling tasks: routing, pulling, terminating, labeling, and testing.
  • Conduct system startup, device enrollment, and functional testing to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, general contractors, and customer stakeholders to align installation work with project requirements.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, floor plans, and technical documentation.
  • Document device installation, wiring configuration, and as-built system details.
  • Maintain compliance with safety rules, quality standards, and federal security guidelines.
  • Provide timely updates on installation progress, challenges, and issue resolution.
4. Required Skills & Experience (Must-Haves)
  • Hands-on experience installing or servicing Lenel OnGuard access control systems.
  • Strong understanding of access control hardware, low-voltage wiring, and physical security infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, technical schematics, and construction documents.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving ability in installation environments.
  • Experience working in commercial, industrial, federal, or enterprise environments.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work on-site across multiple naval base locations near Columbia, MD.
5. Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Haves)
  • LenelS2 certifications (LNL-CT, LNL-AT, or equivalent).
  • Experience with additional access control or video management systems.
  • Basic networking familiarity (IP addressing, switches, PoE).
  • Experience coordinating with construction teams or other trades.
  • Knowledge of federal physical security requirements and best practices.
  • Experience with digital documentation tools for field reporting.

7. Success Metrics (First 90 Days & Beyond)

First 90 Days:
  • Complete assigned installations with minimal rework.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in installing, wiring, testing, and documenting Lenel OnGuard systems.
  • Follow all safety protocols, federal site requirements, and workflow standards.

Beyond 90 Days:
  • Independently execute installations across multiple naval bases.
  • Consistently meet project deadlines and quality benchmarks.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with field teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to improved installation workflows or documentation processes.
8. Work Environment
  • Primary home location: Columbia, MD (Convergint Federal).
  • Field installation role with daily travel to naval bases throughout the Columbia, MD region.
  • Work may include commercial, industrial, construction, and federal security environments.
  • Physical tasks may include lifting equipment, running cabling, ladder use, and tool operation.
  • Schedule aligns with project requirements; occasional off-hours or adjusted shifts may be needed.
  • This is a 6-month contract-to-hire position through Apex Systems.
9. Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay Range: $30 - $47 per hour, contingent upon experience.
