Staff Software Engineer - Risk and Payment Team (Backend)

About the Role

Design and develop robust and high performance systems and solutions that address payment fraud, booster growth as well as optimize user experiences across Uber Products and Lines of Businesses. This involves building highly impactful, real-time risk assessment and intervention systems that process petabytes of data and make billions of predictions/decisions daily.

Collaborate with cross functional teams like Product Manager, Data Scientists/Analysts, Machine Learning Engineers to innovate in Risk domain, contribute to product enhancement, design and develop solutions while adhering to best practices in software engineering

\\-\\-\\-\\- What the Candidate Will Do ----

1. Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable software solutions
2. Collaborate with product managers, cross engineering teams, data scientists and other partners to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications
3. Identify opportunities and lead of the entire development lifecycle end-to-end, from architecture design and coding to testing and deployment
4. Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to future-proof our software ecosystem and maintain a competitive technical edge
5. Mentor and guide other engineers, providing technical leadership and encouraging a collaborative team environment

\\-\\-\\-\\- Basic Qualifications ----

1. Bachelors (or higher) or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
2. 7+ years of experience in software engineering.
3. Expertise in programming languages such as Java, Go, Python etc. Good scripting skills and ability to pick up new ones
4. Experience in working on large-scale distributed systems and designing data-driven architecture.
5. Experience in shipping scalable, efficient, reliable solutions and resilient code/products that reach millions of users
6. Strong problem-solving skills, with expertise in algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.

\\-\\-\\-\\- Preferred Qualifications ----

1. Previous hands-on experience with Risk, Fraud Detection, and Machine Learning.
2. Proficiency in building batch and real-time data pipelines (e.g., using Spark, Flink, Kafka Streams).
3. Contribution to the wider software community through open source
4. Agentic system design and development experience

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.
