Lead Fire Alarm Technician

TEKsystems is searching for a Lead Fire Alarm Technician to support a rapidly growing fire alarm and security systems deployment initiative in the Nashville area. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician who enjoys taking ownership in the field, leading small teams, and playing a key role in large-scale commercial projects.
The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on installation and troubleshooting experience, leadership capabilities, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality safety and performance standards.

Position Overview

As a Lead Fire Alarm Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, service, troubleshooting, and commissioning of commercial fire alarm systems. You will also provide field leadership to small crews, support project execution, and help establish best practices as the team continues to expand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service, test, and troubleshoot commercial fire alarm systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
  • Lead and mentor field teams of 2-4 technicians and helpers.
  • Install fire alarm devices including:
    • Smoke detectors
    • Heat detectors
    • Pull stations
    • Horn/strobes
    • Control panels
    • Relays and associated components
  • Bend and install EMT and rigid conduit as required.
  • Ensure all installations comply with NFPA 72, local fire codes, and customer requirements.
  • Perform system inspections, testing, and troubleshooting independently.
  • Coordinate daily activities with project teams and communicate job progress.
  • Maintain a safe and professional work environment while working in occupied commercial facilities.
  • Work with minimal supervision and make sound field decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with:
    • Commercial fire alarm installation and/or service
    • Structured cabling
    • Conduit installation
    • Nurse call systems
    • Related low-voltage systems
  • Proven experience leading crews of 2-4 employees in commercial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, fire alarm systems, and inspection processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
  • Experience troubleshooting systems independently.
  • Ability to lead a helper or junior technician onsite.
  • Comfortable working without direct day-to-day manager oversight.
  • Must possess personal hand tools, including items such as punches, snips, and scissors.
  • Experience installing and servicing common fire alarm devices and control equipment.
  • Experience bending and running EMT and rigid conduit.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional experience with security systems, access control, or other low-voltage technologies.
  • NICET certification or other fire alarm industry certifications.
  • Experience supporting large commercial construction or retrofit projects.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
