Our client is looking for a Systems Administrator III to join their team.
On-site vs remote schedule
o 3 days on-site in Columbia, MD / 2 days remote
Breakdown
A lot of tickets and troubleshooting support to start out
This person will take a "leadership" spot to run with projects (deployments, server investigations, defining processes, creating scripts to automate tasks, etc.)
After a few months, it will be heavily focused on project work; working with engineering team on a daily basis

Active Directory (Domain Controllers)
M365 experience would be nice
o Exchange on-prem / Exchange Online
Azure Services experience would be helpful in the future
Skillset lacking - wants someone who is strong with Powershell scripting
o Need someone who can create scripts from scratch
o DNS, AD, GPO
If this person is strong with automation, that would be great
Solarwinds / MECM (monitoring tools)

The Systems Administrator III should demonstrate a thorough understanding of fundamental concepts of a broad range of technologies and concepts listed below. This role should also be able to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in more than two of these areas:
Server and Storage hardware (Cisco UCSX, NetApp, Pure Storage, NAS, and SAN)
Microsoft Windows Server platforms and services (DNS, DHCP, Route53, Certificate Creation and Management)
System Management (Microsoft Systems Center, SolarWinds, MECM, Azure Arc)
Virtualization and Cloud (VMware, Nutanix, Azure Local, Azure, Entra, M365)
Identity and Access Management (Active Directory, HAB Groups, Okta, SSO/AD FS, Entra ID, Centrify/Delinea)
Enterprise Backup and Disaster Recovery (Rubrik, Zerto)
Enterprise Messaging (Hybrid Exchange, Exchange Online, Teams, eDiscovery, Cisco ESA)
System Security (DLP, Vulnerability Assessment and Remediation)
Web Server platforms (IIS, SharePoint, F5 Load Balancers)
PowerShell skills and other scripting languages are highly desired
Microsoft Server 2019, 2022, 2025
Familiarity with ServiceNow platform (Change, Incident, and Problem Management)
Experience with building and maintaining Domain Controllers and FSMO roles
Job Responsibilities:
Acts as the principal administrator on several of the technologies that are managed by the IS Operations Team.
Adheres to our client's ITSM processes, e.g. Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, etc. and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Mentors and guides junior team members on technical procedures as well as our client's ITSM processes during daily operations.
Helps define Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and best practices for their specialized technologies.
Creates operational documentation and shares with peers on how to execute operational tasks for the Operations team and the service desk.
Partners with Engineering teams or any other IS Teams on project work by helping to gather technical requirements and build a solution.
Creates Knowledge Base Articles (KBA's) and conducts training for junior team members.
Monitors, investigates, and resolves events generated by the Enterprise System, Application and Security Management tools, escalating issues to other teams as necessary.
Performs operational health checks and maintenance tasks on critical infrastructure services and business applications to ensure their availability.
Provide after-hours support for planned maintenance and incident resolution.
Develops yearly goals and a professional development plan for themselves.
Demonstrates knowledge with automation tools (PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Azure Automation, Scorch, etc.)
Creates PowerShell scripts to automate manual processes, perform data collection, and provide insightful reports.
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary.

Minimum Requirements:
o Bachelor's Degree in information systems or related field experience is preferred.
o Eight to ten (8 - 10) years of relevant IT experience.
o Hands-on experience in several of the technical areas described above is required.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbia, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $53.00 - $58.00/hr.
