Overview The Vice President, Technology & Systems is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategy, delivery, and continuous improvement of business unit technology platforms supporting the full tech life cycle. This leader will champion a seamless, simplified, and member-centric experience while enabling efficiency, scalability, and reliability for internal teams. The role partners closely across NFCU with organizations like Enterprise Technology, Risk, Compliance, and Vendor Management to ensure systems are intuitive, integrated, secure, and aligned with Navy Federal's mission of putting members first.
Responsibilities Strategy & Leadership- Define and execute the technology and systems strategy for the Business Unit, aligned with enterprise technology direction and business objectives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Business Unit leadership on technology capabilities, roadmaps, and investment decisions.
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing technology and systems teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Member & Employee Experience- Drive simplification and consistency across member-facing and employee-facing systems and processes.
- Ensure a friction-reduced experience across the mortgage life cycle-from application and underwriting through closing and servicing.
- Advocate for innovation/design thinking, usability, and automation to reduce manual effort and improve cycle times.
Technology Delivery & Operations- Oversee core platforms, integrations, data flows, and supporting tools.
- Partner with Enterprise Technology to ensure system reliability, performance, scalability, and security.
- Lead modernization initiatives, including cloud and artificial intelligence adoption, workflow automation, and API-driven integrations where appropriate.
Cross-Functional Partnership- Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, Enterprise Technology and Legal to ensure systems support regulatory requirements and operational needs.
- Translate business needs into clear technology requirements and prioritized delivery roadmaps.
- Align strategic vendor strategies and contracts to support long-term capability, flexibility, and cost efficiency.
Risk, Compliance & Governance- Ensure technology solutions comply with regulatory, security, privacy, and data governance standards applicable to financial services.
- Establish strong controls, documentation, and audit readiness across systems and processes.
- Manage technology risk, change management, and business continuity planning.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications - Mast er's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration (MBA), Accounting, Economics, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Extensive progressive leadership experience in technology and systems, with significant experience in financial institutions
- Deep understanding of the banking life cycle
- Proven experience leading large-scale technology transformations and system integrations
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and collaborate across senior leadership teams
- Extensive experience in leading and managing analytical, process improvement and automation, workforce management, and business intelligence teams
- Expert knowledge of data querying, reporting, forecasting, analysis and operations research, including statistical methods and modeling
- Extensive experience in client/vendor management to achieve strategic/tactical goals and implementation
- Extensive experience in demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative taking, decision-making and creativity in solving business problems
- Extensive experience in supervising and leading professional employees
- Expert analytical/quantitative, reconciliation and deductive reasoning skills
- Expert skill interpreting and synthesizing large amounts of information
- Expert skill leading with diplomacy and tact while maintaining appropriate assertiveness and persistence
- Expert skill in results-oriented leadership in a challenging environment
- Expert verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
Desired Qualifications- Advanced knowledge of, and extensive experience in, credit union and/or retail banking operations
- Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies, and procedures
- Demonstrated success improving customer/member experience through technology simplification and automation
