Summary

Job Description:

Responsible for setting up, programming, and operating Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) equipment to produce precision components that meet strict quality, dimensional, and schedule requirements.
This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings in a fastpaced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities: Machine Setup & Operation:

Set up and operate Wire EDM machines (e.g., Mitsubishi, Sodick, Agie, or equivalent).
Select appropriate fixtures, electrodes, wire types, and machining parameters.
Load programs, verify toolpaths, and adjust offsets as needed.
Perform first article inspections and make necessary corrections.

Programming & Process Control

Program Wire EDM operations using CAM software or machine conversational controls.
Optimize cutting conditions to improve accuracy, surface finish, and cycle time.
Troubleshoot machining issues such as wire breaks, poor flushing, and taper errors.

Quality & Inspection

Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications.
Use precision inspection tools (e.g., micrometers, height gauges, CMMs) to verify part conformance.
Document results using required forms, travelers, or digital quality systems.

Maintenance & Safety

Perform routine maintenance on Wire EDM equipment, including wire threading systems, filters, and dielectric fluid.
Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S and safety protocols.
Identify and report equipment issues to maintenance or engineering teams.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with engineering, programming, and quality teams to resolve production issues.
Provide input on process improvements, fixture design, and manufacturability.
Communicate job status, delays, or quality concerns to supervisors.

Required Qualifications:

2 5 years of experience operating and/or programming Wire EDM machines.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
Strong understanding of machining principles, feeds/speeds, and materials (tool steels, hardened alloys, etc.).
Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
Basic computer skills and familiarity with shop travelers or digital work instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Esprit, PEPS, etc.).
Experience in a highprecision manufacturing environment (medical, aerospace, defense, semiconductor).
Working knowledge of lean manufacturing or 5S.
Ability to operate additional machines (CNC mills, grinders, CNC lathes) is a plus.
