Summary

Job Description:
  • Responsible for setting up, programming, and operating Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) equipment to produce precision components that meet strict quality, dimensional, and schedule requirements.
  • This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings in a fastpaced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities: Machine Setup & Operation:
  • Set up and operate Wire EDM machines (e.g., Mitsubishi, Sodick, Agie, or equivalent).
  • Select appropriate fixtures, electrodes, wire types, and machining parameters.
  • Load programs, verify toolpaths, and adjust offsets as needed.
  • Perform first article inspections and make necessary corrections.
Programming & Process Control
  • Program Wire EDM operations using CAM software or machine conversational controls.
  • Optimize cutting conditions to improve accuracy, surface finish, and cycle time.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues such as wire breaks, poor flushing, and taper errors.
Quality & Inspection
  • Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications.
  • Use precision inspection tools (e.g., micrometers, height gauges, CMMs) to verify part conformance.
  • Document results using required forms, travelers, or digital quality systems.
Maintenance & Safety
  • Perform routine maintenance on Wire EDM equipment, including wire threading systems, filters, and dielectric fluid.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S and safety protocols.
  • Identify and report equipment issues to maintenance or engineering teams.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with engineering, programming, and quality teams to resolve production issues.
  • Provide input on process improvements, fixture design, and manufacturability.
  • Communicate job status, delays, or quality concerns to supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
  • 2 5 years of experience operating and/or programming Wire EDM machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, feeds/speeds, and materials (tool steels, hardened alloys, etc.).
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with shop travelers or digital work instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Esprit, PEPS, etc.).
  • Experience in a highprecision manufacturing environment (medical, aerospace, defense, semiconductor).
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing or 5S.
  • Ability to operate additional machines (CNC mills, grinders, CNC lathes) is a plus.
