Summary

Are you an innovative thinker? Do you love the challenge of advancing a widely accepted technology? The Wireless Technologies and Ecosystems (WTE) team is seeking a hardworking individual with outstanding communication skills and an exceptional technical knowledge of cellular technologies. You will design, develop the next generation of our innovative connectivity technologies. You will be responsible for delivering architecture, design and implementation of multi-layers, distributed, and real-time simulation componentsYou will collaborate across departments to help craft wireless solutions that elevate the customer experience with Apple products and iOS SW features.

We are working on influencing the definition of next-generation wireless systems/standards in terms of system concepts and network architecture. You will have the opportunity to work with different technical teams to define wireless and network features and help drive external infrastructure vendors and carriers to full feature realization. \n\nWhile partnering with other engineers you will define problem statements, design AI/ML-based data-driven learning solutions, assess the system-level performance, and research innovative ideas & solutions. Most importantly, you will be part of building/contributing to our simulator/emulator framework. You will be focussing on designing and developing complete SW components embedded into the simulation to verify end-to-end various items/ideas/concepts. Day to day, you will define innovations and technical contributions in different areas of the cellular system (L1/L2/L3) and network architecture. You will build physically accurate ray tracing algorithms and engines for AI/ML integration with wireless simulations as well as rendering these same environments into real-time 3D visualizations. You will design, develop, integrate and bringup simulation components/subsystems with their corresponding infra-structure (e.g.; message passing, event-triggering, etc) to model cellular technology. In addition, you will contribute in defining services and functionalities delivered by the simulator, profiling and optimizing code. Moreover, you will develop models of overall system and network performance and evaluate performance and critical metrics tradeoffs to optimize the overall architecture. \n\nThis is an extraordinary opportunity to help Apple build innovative wireless devices and features for hundreds of millions of Apple users. If you are passionate about shaping the future of connectivity, we would love to hear from you!

Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.\n5+ years of experience with programming in modern C++/Python/Swift/Rust.\nExperience in graphics programming, GPU computing, or a closely related field.\nHands-on experience with at least one GPU shading/compute API: Metal, Vulkan, DirectX, WebGPU.

Passion for building highly reusable software models, writing clear and readable code, performing code reviews, and supplying a CI/CD infrastructure and experience with large scale Software.\nGood understanding of packet scheduling, networking protocols, queuing theory, Networks slicing, Application layer, solid understanding of wireless communication and Wireless Standards (5G NR, LTE), especially in RAN2 features and procedures.\nGood familiarity with various AI/ML libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).\nExperience applying ray tracing or GPU acceleration in an AI/ML context.\nExperience with hardware-accelerated ray tracing (RT cores, Metal ray tracing API).\nBackground in physically-based rendering (PBR).\nHighly motivated and proactive, a fast learner, and a good team player.
