Job Summary

General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world's leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is at the forefront of developing transformative technologies that define the future of defense and energy systems. Our portfolio includes electromagnetic aircraft launch systems, advanced missile defense technologies, and cutting-edge nuclear systems. Our world-class engineering teams tackle some of the most challenging problems in modern defense and energy-designing railguns, laser weapon systems, and next-generation power and propulsion technologies that push the boundaries of physics and engineering. Our team of world-class engineers works on programs that directly impact national security and advance critical energy capabilities.

We are seeking a Engineer, Controls and Mechanical Level 2 to join our Nuclear Technologies and Materials (NTM) division, where you will contribute to advanced programs developing the next generation of nuclear power and space propulsion systems. In this role, you will develop and integrate advanced control systems that embody automation and machine learning to automatically control and autonomously operate advanced nuclear systems for fission surface power, nuclear thermal propulsion, and nuclear electric propulsion systems. This is an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of nuclear engineering, controls systems, and mechanical design on technologies that address vital national needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop innovative control strategy and mechanisms for advanced nuclear systems
  • Integrate control with mechanical systems for nuclear power and space propulsion applications
  • Perform systems engineering analysis and integration across multidisciplinary teams
  • Utilize design software including ANSYS and SolidWorks to develop and validate designs
  • Support testing, verification, and validation activities for nuclear systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including nuclear engineers, thermal analysts, and program management
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.
