Summary

Beehive Industries is dedicated to Powering American Defense by revolutionizing the design, development, and delivery of jet propulsion systems to support the warfighter. Through the integration of additive manufacturing, the company aims to meet the growing and urgent needs for unmanned aerial defense by dramatically improving a jet engine's speed to market, fuel efficiency, and cost.

Founded in 2020, the company is headquartered in Centennial, Colorado, with additional facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee, Loveland Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Ohio. Beehive is committed to grow and advance the defense industrial base while manufacturing exclusively in the USA. This role will be located at our Centennial, Colorado facility.

Role Overview

The Senior Engineer, Design & Modeling - Harness is responsible for leading the design, development, integration, and lifecycle management of electrical harnesses and related controls components for complex aerospace systems. This role partners with Controls Engineering and cross-functional Integrated Product Teams to develop robust, production-ready harness designs while ensuring compliance with system requirements, manufacturability, reliability, and performance objectives. The position provides technical leadership in harness design, supports product development activities, and drives engineering solutions throughout the product lifecycle.

What You'll Do...

  • Lead the design and development of electrical harnesses, controls hardware, and related accessory components from concept through production
  • Develop complete harness design definitions including 3D routing models, 2D drawings, wiring diagrams, pinout documentation, and electronic design data
  • Own wire harness routing designs and flattened harness drawings using Siemens NX, Cameo, or similar engineering design tools
  • Define and select appropriate electrical components including connectors, cables, wires, shielding, backshells, and support hardware based on technical and environmental requirements
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including interface control drawings, engineering change requests, configuration data, and lifecycle records
  • Collaborate with Controls Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and other Integrated Product Teams to resolve technical challenges and support design reviews
  • Analyze harness designs for manufacturability, reliability, maintainability, cost, weight, robustness, and system integration requirements
  • Support electrical system integration, fault management, test, and verification activities throughout the product lifecycle
  • Identify design improvements, lead technical problem-solving efforts, and support implementation of engineering changes
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers supporting wire harness design activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
  • Experience designing electrical harnesses, interconnect systems, or related electrical components for aerospace, propulsion, defense, or other highly regulated systems
  • Experience with electrical routing and systems engineering tools
  • Experience developing production-level harness models, drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, propulsion, automotive, or other complex engineering product development environments
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams through design, integration, testing, and production phases
  • Advanced understanding of electrical harness design principles, routing practices, and system integration requirements
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and engineering software used for 3D routing, modeling, and technical documentation
  • Strong understanding of electrical components including connectors, cables, wires, shielding, and installation hardware
  • Ability to interpret and translate system requirements into manufacturable engineering designs
  • Knowledge of configuration management, engineering change processes, and technical documentation standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges
  • Ability to independently manage engineering tasks, priorities, and deliverables
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to less experienced engineers
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

Nice to have...

  • Experience using Siemens NX or Cameo
  • Experience with MIL-DTL-38999, D-sub, Molex, and other aerospace-grade connector systems
  • Experience applying EMI/EMC, grounding, bonding, and shielding requirements to electrical harness designs
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards including RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-461
  • Experience designing brackets, clamps, and support hardware for harness installations
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing standards
  • Experience supporting electrical integration, troubleshooting, verification, and test activities
  • Experience owning harness designs through the full product lifecycle from concept through production support
