ASSYST is seeking a Data Governance Product Manager to support one of our client in establishing and maturing an enterprise wide data classification and information governance program. This role is primarily strategic and product-focused, responsible for defining vision, policies, governance models and adoption strategies for data classification across the organization.

Location: Rockville, MD (Hybrid)
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Define and own the strategic vision, roadmap, and success measures for the data classification product.
- Articulate the value and benefits of a robust classification program to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Build consensus across Legal, Compliance, Security, IT, Records Management and business teams with competing priorities.
- Lead the development of data classification policies, labels, taxonomy, and operational handling standards.
- Provide direction on sensitivity labels, DLP policies, retention labels and related controls to ensure alignment with product strategy.
- Balance risk mitigation with usability by working with security teams to calibrate controls that protect data without disrupting workflows.
- Work closely with project managers and business analysts to align scope, timelines, requirements and delivery outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience leading or delivering data classification, data governance, or information protection programs.
- Strong understanding of classification frameworks, policy development, and enterprise change management.
- Experience guiding Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 Information Protection implementations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder conflict, drive consensus and make defensible product decisions.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards impacting data protection and information governance.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and decision-making skills across technical and business audiences.
