Summary

JOB SUMMARY

A senior cloud architecture engagement supporting Data Center Operations service delivery and IT modernization for a state government agency. The Cloud Solutions Architect 2 will plan, engineer, and guide cloud infrastructure and application solutions that address organization-wide technology needs.

This role combines architecture leadership with hands-on delivery across cloud platforms, cloud networking, Infrastructure as Code, integration pipelines, Kubernetes, serverless infrastructure, monitoring, security, and systems analysis. The architect will work with Data Center Operations service-delivery leadership, enterprise architects, technology leadership, portfolio managers, application development teams, business stakeholders, and other partners.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The architect is responsible for cloud-computing initiatives and architectural direction across IT and business needs. Core outcomes include cloud architectural blueprints, network topologies, technical specifications, scalable cloud-based systems, automated deployments, secure solution designs, and on-time delivery of technology initiatives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Architecture, Strategy & Analysis
  • Lead strategic efforts supporting project delivery and steady-state operations
  • Develop cloud architectural blueprints, network topologies, technical specifications, and architecture options aligned to business requirements
  • Assess user requirements, procedures, systems, current and desired technical states, and gaps; recommend improvements
  • Plan and schedule studies and implementations; provide technical and business-process guidance

Technical Delivery & Operations
  • Lead cloud engineering initiatives, including on-premises transition to public, private, or hybrid cloud platforms
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code and integration pipelines to streamline deployments and scale resources
  • Design, develop, and administer scalable cloud-based systems with reporting and full system integration
  • Coordinate solution implementation, testing, installation, code/standards revisions, and problem resolution
  • Support Kubernetes clusters, serverless infrastructure, and cloud infrastructure service/integration APIs

Security, Collaboration & Enablement
  • Align designs to applicable data security requirements; manage identity and access controls; support HIPAA-aligned practices
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and collaborate with agency IT groups and other state entities
  • Develop or revise standards and procedures, create technical documentation, and assist with planning and justification
  • Oversee development of training for technical and program staff; may conduct training

NON-NEGOTIABLE CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Location and Work Model
  • Must be local to the Austin area, within a 50-mile radius
  • Must work on-site Thursday and Friday under the current hybrid schedule
  • Must be able to work outside standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays if requested

Required Experience & Technical Skills (8+ Years Each)
  • Computer systems, IT equipment, programming languages, hardware/software, and operating systems
  • Major cloud-provider technologies and analytical services; cloud delivery models (PaaS, SaaS, IaaS)
  • AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform cloud services and cloud-based network design principles
  • Agile/Scrum methodology and ceremonies
  • Cloud data governance, security, and compliance
  • Technical writing, diagramming, Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project
  • Technology architecture for software development, data analytics, performance management systems, or data warehousing projects
  • Technology capabilities/limitations analysis and evidence-based problem solving
  • Cloud DevOps, CI/CD, containerization, microservices, and Kubernetes architecture, deployment, scaling, and maintenance
  • Application Kubernetes cluster support, serverless infrastructure, and cloud infrastructure service/integration APIs
  • Cloud automation with Ansible, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and Azure Resource Manager templates
  • Cloud/performance monitoring, auditing, logging, and operations tools (Sysdig Secure, Dynatrace, AWS CloudWatch, Google Cloud Platform Cloud Operations, Azure Monitor, OCI Monitoring, or similar)
  • Automation with Bash, Korn shell, PowerShell, cloud CLI, Kubernetes Helm, and third-party tools
  • YAML, JSON, Ruby, HCL, Ansible, Docker, Terraform, and Infrastructure as Code
  • Managing overlapping deadlines and multiple cross-agency projects; coordinating priorities; leading team members; creating best practices/procedures
