Title: Engineer I, Telecommunications SystemsFacilitates telecommunications operations, network operations, support and management at all sites of the DeKalb County School System (DCSS); implements and designs network and other technical solutions and network standards; and provides advanced troubleshooting and technical support.
Essential Job Duties Repairs and corrects all telecommunications issues received through work orders, including moves, adds, and changes to service.
Maintains the integrity of the school system's main telephone switchboard.
Maintains various other telecommunications systems (e.g., voicemail, School Connects).
Ensures all telecommunications systems are operating at peak performance.
Receives calls regarding requests and other information based on telecom interests; responds to daily issues and dispatches technicians accordingly; responds to cell phone issues based on issuance.
Performs daily checks on all telecom systems to include all servers, systems, switches and other peripherals required for the telecom system.
Ensures all troubleshooting, installations and repairs of telecom equipment and servers are completed, documented and configured per the project.
Designs and programs network and other technical solutions.
Keeps documentation on all telecom systems, servers and peripherals.
Handles cell phone requests and issues as needed.
Performs installation of new equipment.
Ensures all systems have up-to-date software release versions and monitors technical bulletins for any current notices.
Participates in planning meetings for new system installations and maintenance; participates on committees and attends all essential meetings.
Develops training and user guides for current systems; trains co-workers on use of system.
Speaks with outside vendors on the District's behalf regarding telecom infrastructure.
Remains current on current trends in Telecommunications.
Carries a district issued cellular phone and may require work outside of regularly scheduled hours as this position is critical to efficient operation of the DCSD communications Infrastructure.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Communication Systems Engineering or closely related area is
required.
More than three (3) years telecommunications systems installation/maintenance or closely related experience is
required.
